Tuscarora Junior High students keep soldiers in mind during holidays

MIFFLINTOWN — Students in the social studies and special education classrooms at Tuscarora Junior High School in Mifflintown are looking to collect 100 pairs of stockings for the holidays.

But, these aren’t just any ordinary pairs of stockings.

The Tuscarora Junior High School students are coordinating a Stockings for Soldiers project, which consists of collecting donations to fill the stockings with snacks and activities to send to deployed military members over the holidays.

Not only does the project benefit military members who are away from their home and families, but it teaches students about life skills including sorting, organizing, taking inventory and packaging.

To reach their goal of 100 stockings, help from the community. And that’s where you come in.

Donations can include granola bars, Slim Jims, beef jerky, chewing gum, mints, fruit snacks, trail mix and nuts, popcorn, flavored drink mixes, pocket games, crossword and Sudoku books and stockings.

The drop-off location is the main office at Tuscarora Junior High School, 3873 William Penn Highway, Mifflintown.

Starting at $2.99/week.
