Area men jailed, facing charges after series of incidents in Lewistown
LEWISTOWN — Lewistown Police Department officers responded to a residence on West Hale Street for a report of two males kicking in the door at 12:47 a.m. on Dec. 25, according to a release issued on Friday. Officers located Jaydan Herb, 21, of Lewistown, and Jayden McKnight, 18, of Granville Township, at the residence, the report said, and both subjects denied kicking the door and said they were knocking aggressively after a cell phone app indicated that Herb’s girlfriend was there. They claimed the female’s father asked them to go look for her, the report said, and officers ordered the subjects to leave the area.
On Dec. 6, officers were dispatched again to the area after the resident returned home and found their door was not secured and the frame was damaged, the report said. Officers interviewed the owner and a witness and arrest warrants were issued for Herb and McKnight, charging them with criminal trespassing, the report said.
At 2:39 a.m. on Dec. 6, officers were dispatched to the intersection of West Fourth Street and Pennsylvania Avenue for a report of a shot fired, the report said, and a witness reported seeing a male wearing all black clothing in the area looking around on the ground for something. Officers had contact with Herb, who matched the description, the report said, and he was found to be highly intoxicated and in possession of a handgun tucked into his waist. Herb denied that he discharged his firearm, which is a violation of borough ordinances, and he told officers he was outside patrolling his property, the report said. Herb expressed paranoia of being jumped by someone and he said he was constantly looking outside his residence, the report said.
Officers secured the firearm during this investigation. Herb will be charged with public drunkenness and possibly other offenses depending on the outcome of a police investigation, the report said. Herb did have an active concealed carry permit, the report said, and during this incident, officers spoke with other subjects inside Herb’s apartment. One of those subjects was identified as Jordan S. Herb, 40, Granville Township, who had an active warrant and was taken into custody and lodged at the Mifflin County Correctional Facility in Lewistown on his warrant.
At 10:20 a.m. on Dec. 8, Jaydan Herb came to the Lewistown Police Department station, requesting a firearm be returned to him regarding an unrelated incident. Officers were aware that Herb had an arrest warrant and took him into custody without incident.
Man cited for defiant trespassing
LEWISTOWN — Lewistown Police Department officers received a complaint that David A. Stevenson, 68, of Lewistown, was standing in the drive through at a bank at 9:50 p.m. on Dec. 5, located on East Market Street, according to a release issued on Friday. Previously, Stevenson received a no trespass notice, the report said, and he was removed from the property and cited for defiant trespassing.
Police: Elderly resident scammed out of $500 for dog adoption
LEWISTOWN — At 12:55 p.m. on Dec. 5, Lewistown Police Department received a report that an elderly resident tried to purchase a puppy from someone in New York for $500 and this person was going to deliver the puppy, according to a release issued on Friday. The resident saw an ad on a Facebook listing, the report said, and the resident was told to go to a local store and purchase Apple iTunes gift cards. The information from the cards was provided to the other party, the report said, and the other party then said they needed another $250 in gift cards to deliver the dog. The police remind residents not to send currency through gift cards as this is a common method of fraud.
Lewistown officers, constable locate wanted Derry Township man
LEWISTOWN — A Pennsylvania state constable and Mifflin County Probation requested the assistance of Lewistown Police Department officers at a residence on the 100 block of Valley Street in Lewistown at 7:19 p.m. on Dec. 5 with regard to apprehending a wanted subject, according to a release issued on Friday. The constable had been conducting surveillance of the residence based on information that Robert M. Brown Jr., 35, of Derry Township, was located inside, the report said, and a subject under probation supervision was detained leaving the residence. Officers received confirmation that Brown was inside the residence along with resident Stevie L. Young, 31, of Lewistown, the report said, and officers eventually obtained a search warrant to make entry. They located Young and found Brown hiding in the top bunk of a bunk bed underneath the bed’s covers, the report said, and Brown was taken into custody on his warrants. Young was also taken into custody and charged with hindering apprehension or prosecution and obstruction of the administration of law or other governmental function, the report said.
Lewistown man arrested on warrant, charged with possession
LEWISTOWN — Penns C. Rheam, 27, of Lewistown, was charged with possession of controlled substances by Lewistown Police Department officers after they found a container of MDMA/Ecstasy from under the driver seat during a routine traffic stop at 9:53 p.m. on Dec. 8, according to a release issued on Friday. Officers were following a vehicle registered to Rheam and knew he had an active prothonotary warrant, the report said. Officers stopped the vehicle on the 100 block of South Main Street in Lewistown, the report said, and took him into custody. During a search, Rheam was found to possess a concealed drawstring bag that contained syringes and packages of cocaine and methamphetamine, the report said, and his vehicle was towed to a secure storage facility and Rheam was lodged in Mifflin County Correctional Facility in Lewistown on his warrant.
Area man arrested for warrant, being charged with possession after traffic stop
LEWISTOWN — A 29-year-old area man was arrested on an active warrant and later charged with possession of controlled substances and possession of drug paraphernalia after a routine vehicle stop by the Lewistown Police Department at 8:25 p.m. on Dec. 9, according to a release issued on Friday. Initially, officers stopped a vehicle on the 200 block of Shaw Avenue in Lewistown for an equipment violation, the report said, and the driver of the vehicle had a history of drug offenses with LPD. The passenger was identified as Robert J. Shouey, who had an active warrant for his arrest, possessed a straw with methamphetamine residue and two packages of methamphetamine, the report said. The vehicle was towed and a search warrant was granted on the following day, the report said, and a search of the vehicle revealed several pieces of drug paraphernalia associated with property belonging to Shouey and a small amount of marijuana.
Lewistown man charged with burglary, making terroristic threats
Officers responded to the 600 block of Valley Street for a report of a male only known to the resident as “Kurt,” who forced his way into the residence and assaulted the resident, according to a release issued by the Lewistown Police Department on Friday. When officers arrived on scene, they observed the described assaulter on the front porch, the report said, and the subject began walking away as officers approached. The subject was stopped and identified as Kurtis D. Perschau, 49, of Lewistown, the report said, and Perschau was highly intoxicated and refused to make a statement.
Officers spoke with the resident, who claimed he doesn’t know Perschau and had only met him one time in the past, the report said and alleged Perschau showed up to the resident’s door yelling at the resident calling him a liar and threatening to kill him. Perschau punched the resident, who sustained a cut on his forehead and an abrasion on his wrist, the report said, and officers noted signs of a struggle inside the living room. Perschau ran away after punching the resident but then returned, letting himself in through the front door, the report said, to look for his glasses and Air Pods. Perschau was lodged in the Mifflin County Correctional Facility in Lewistown and charged with burglary, terroristic threats, simple assault and other charges.
