Prince Edward Island, Canada, is proud to have been the birthplace of Lucy Maud ‘L.M.’ Montgomery and her influential book, ‘Anne of Green Gables.’

REEDSVILLE — After two decades their affiliation might have changed, but Karen Galbraith and Nancy Kauffman are still the hostesses with the same fabulous travel destinations in mind.

Since 2013, the two Reedsville women have taken approximately three trips a year up and down the East Coast. From Maine to Montreal, Canada, to Savannah, Ga., and Charleston, S.C., they’ve been to some magical places.

Tours have even gone westward to Cincinnati and suburban Detroit. These excursions are a far cry from their first adventure — a day trip to Philadelphia.

This year, the women are no longer affiliated with the Mifflin County Historical Society. They have formed their own company, Destination Travel Tours.

“We made some changes in our trips going forward,” Kauffman said. “As you know or may not know, because of the (Mifflin County) Historical Society mission statement, we can no longer be included in their non-profit status.”

The Bay of Fundy, a bay located between Canada and the United States, has the highest tides in the world.

Galbraith continued, “We were not ready to end these trips, so we are continuing on our own to offer quality trips at a fair price.

“This is a new business for us, but we are just following the format and the pricing that we always used. Galbraith added. “We are offering multi-day trips three times a year, and we are trying to make the trips a combination of visiting historical sites and doing some cool non-historical things.”
