County: Homestead applications sent in error
MIFFLINTOWN — Residents of Greenwood Township who have received a Homestead Farmstead application from Juniata County School District should disregard them, said Michael Hower, the county’s director of assessment.
Hower explained to Juniata County Commissioners Tuesday that the school district erroneously sent the application to all residents of Juniata County, including those who do not attend the school.
The application “gives (residents) a small reduction on property tax,” or a tax exclusion, Hower explained.
The Homestead Farmstead exclusion is available to property owners for the residence they currently live in. The exclusion can also be applied to commercial agricultural production.
Anyone with questions about the application may contact Hower at (717) 436-7740.
Hower noted that as of Tuesday’s meeting, the Juniata County School District had not been made aware of the mistake.
Also during Tuesday’s meeting, the board approved a 3 percent raise for all non-union workers in the treasury, register recorder, sheriff and prothonotary offices as well as the district attorney’s office and nonunion workers in the court offices.
In other news, Commissioners approved the appointment of Bradley Kerstetter to the Juniata County Industrial Development Authority to a five year term as well as noted that as of Jan. 1, 2026.
The board also changed the Juniata County government office hours to 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
