Construction continues at Beaver Stadium
UNIVERSITY PARK — Much like “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas,” not a creature has been stirring football-wise at Beaver Stadium since the college gridiron season ended a month ago.
Penn State football fans figured to be nestled all snug in their beds, while visions of winning this year’s College Football Playoff danced in their heads. It might be a long winter after the kerfuffle that was the 2025 season.
The only thing that is progressing these days — besides new head coach Matt Campbell assembling his staff and fielding a team for 202 — is the construction for the $700 million Beaver Stadium Revitalization Project.
Penn State posted on social media that workers were being sought to help remove the temporary bleachers at Beaver Stadium. Additionally, the school was also seeking help removing seatbacks from around the stadium. At least one local group took Penn State up on that offer as coaches, players and their families for the new Mifflin County Junior High baseball group used that opportunity as a fundraiser to help cover the costs of operating the feeder program.
“When we started selling the game day seats, the lady in charge of that informed us that If we were interested in making additional money we could install or remove the installed seats,” Mifflin County head baseball coach Ray Hoppel said. “When I first started, we did a big group of uninstalls in December. This group of junior high families did installs in August of this year and is doing the uninstalls today.”
Penn State will use temporary seating for the next two football seasons. For the 2025 and ’26 seasons, about 7,900 temporary bleacher seats will be installed above the lower bowl of the west stands, along with temporary concessions stands and rest rooms. The capacity is expected to remain at more than 100,000 for the next two seasons. Impacted season-ticket holders will be able to choose seats in the temporary bleachers or select from available seats elsewhere, which will be limited.
Penn State said about 25% of the seating on the west side for the 2027 season will be premium.
