Borough votes to raise property taxes

LEWISTOWN — The Lewistown Borough Council Monday approved a 2026 tax ordinance to raise property taxes.

The property tax increase or millage adjustments include a lighting adjustment from 0.736 to 1.119 mills, a fire tax adjustment from 0.267 to 0.299 mills, and a real estate tax adjustment from 13.859 to 14.859 mills.

In councilman Steve Knudson’s absence, the present council members approved tax ordinance 2025-13 in a 5-1 roll call vote, with councilman Larry Searer voting against the motion.

In a 6-0 roll-call vote, council members approved the 2026 sewer rate ordinance 2025-14 at $112.60 per equivalent dwelling unit per quarter and $6.60 per 1,000 gallons.

Council also:

• Approved the 2026 parking violation rate ordinance 2025-15;

• Approved the 2026 real estate discount, face, and penalty dates and amounts ordinance 2025-16.

Lewistown Borough Council will meet next at the Lewistown Community Center, 108 Montgomery Avenue, at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 5, 2026.
