Thanksgiving groceries for Juniata County families in need

MIFFLINTOWN — The Rotary Club of Mifflintown and the Juniata County Food Pantry are joining forces to bring Thanksgiving meals to Juniata County families in need. All the groceries to make up a Thanksgiving dinner will be distributed on Saturday, Nov. 22 from 10 a.m. to noon at the River Church Parking lot (CJEMS) north of Mifflintown on Rte. 35. This will be a drive through distribution like last year. Attendees are instructed to stay in your vehicle when you arrive and someone will come to you.

This will be the only time to receive the Thanksgiving meal this year. To qualify for the Thanksgiving distribution, everyone must present some form of ID — Driver’s license, Access card, Medicare card, etc. In addition, any family not a current customer (within last 12 months) of the Juniata County Food Pantry must provide current proof of Juniata County residency — current photo ID with Juniata County address or a recent piece of mail (utility bill or lease) with name and address and sign an income eligibility form at the distribution.

Those picking up a meal for someone else must have a note, signed and dated by the recipient, allowing you to pick up the meal for them, as well as the required proof listed above. There is no need to arrive early. Ensure you have room in your vehicle for the meal box.

If you would like to help provide holiday meals, donations are being sought for turkeys, brownie/cookie mix, cranberry sauce, stuffing, gravy and canned sweet potatoes. Monetary and gift card donations are also appreciated.

For more information, contact the Juniata County Food Pantry at (717) 436-9718. The Pantry is located at 114 N. Main St., Mifflintown. The mailing address is P.O. Box 44, Mifflintown, 17059. Hours are Tuesdays 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. to noon. Donations of non-perishable items may be left at any time in the vestibule.
