REEDSVILLE — After Henderson-Bohn Funeral Home’s years of service to the community, funeral director April Henderson-Rhodes opened a new funeral home in Reedsville on Nov. 9 to merge Henderson Funeral Home in Belleville and Henderson-Bohn Funeral Home in Reedsville.

“It took many years of thought and planning to decide exactly how I could best serve the community with our brand new location,” Henderson-Rhodes said. “There were many very special people involved in the design, planning, decorating, and overall construction of the building as well as moving everything we needed from the two previous locations. And, I can never thank them or the community enough for the support that has been offered to me now and throughout the years to come. This is an absolute dream come true for me.”

The new Henderson-Bohn Funeral Home is located at 6880 Route 655 in Reedsville, between the two previous locations, offering easy access for the funeral home’s clientele in the region.

Henderson-Rhodes received her Bachelor of Science degree from Juniata College, with an emphasis in psychology and sociology, and her associate’s degree in specialized technology from the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science.

She then came to Belleville in October 1999 and began a 12-month internship with Don Baggus at his funeral home in Mifflintown.

Following her internship and passing the state and national boards, she became a licensed funeral director in Pennsylvania in November 2000.

Henderson-Rhodes worked at Baggus Funeral Home for 10 years before purchasing the business from Baggus and renaming it Henderson Funeral Home, Inc.

In January 2022, Henderson-Rhodes negotiated a deal with Lee and Vance Bohn to purchase the Bohn Funeral Home in Reedsville, renaming it Henderson-Bohn Funeral Home.

“I am attempting to make life a little easier for myself, my staff and the community,” Henderson-Rhodes shared. “Both of the previous locations, Belleville and Reedsville, have served the communities well for many years, but both were in need of repairs and upgrades.”

According to Henderson-Rhodes, there have been several renovations to the Belleville location in the past 15 years of ownership. Still, many more renovations were needed at the Belleville and Reedsville locations.

“After a while, I decided that it doesn’t make good financial sense to keep pouring money into older buildings that will still have limited handicap accessibility outside and inside, as well as not have adequate space that we often need,” Henderson-Rhodes explained.

After years of hoping, dreaming, and planning, work for the new facility began around August 2024 before groundbreaking in November 2024.

Henderson-Rhodes received the occupancy permit on Sept. 29; a state inspection of the new building followed on Oct. 29. The new facility was officially opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Nov. 9, 2025.

“My plans and goals with this facility (are) mainly to provide this community with a brand new, state-of-the-art facility that is roomy enough to hold larger viewings and services, but still homey and comfortable enough for the private, intimate services as well,” Henderson-Rhodes shared. “As our sign that was up during the construction noted, we are investing in a community that we have been blessed to serve.”

The new facility is a one-level building that offers handicap accessibility, plenty of parking, and a large chapel that can accommodate more than 200 people. Additionally, the new building has an area in the foyer where parents can retreat with their young children to keep them busy with books, puzzles, games and stuffed animal friends if they become restless during services.

Henderson-Bohn’s new location provides complete traditional services, and cremation services, as well as several ways for clients to pre-plan and pre-pay for funeral services.

In compliance with state regulations, both former facilities have been closed, bringing all Henderson-Bohn services under one roof in Big Valley.

Starting at $2.99/week.
