Friends of library plan fundraisers
MIFFLINTOWN — The Friends of the Juniata County Library want to spread some holiday cheer now and continue right through to the proverbial Christmas in July.
They have three fundraisers on the horizon. Going on right now, the Friends are selling sweatshirts with their new logo emblazoned on the front.
“These comfy sweats are the perfect thing for cold winter weather,” said Friends of the Juniata County Library Publicity Chairperson Virginia Haubert.
The Friends have crewnecks in stock, but hoodies and three-quarter zips can also be ordered. Crewnecks cost $25, with hoodies at $27 and three-quarter zips at $36. Larger sizes — from 2X to 5X — cost slightly more. Order forms are available at the library until Thursday, Dec. 11.
One-day book sale
on Dec. 11
Circle that date — Dec. 11 — because that’s when the Friends are planning a one-day book sale in their book cellar.
“‘Tis the season, and the Friends of the Juniata County Library are preparing to help spread the magic of the holidays,” Haubert added. “In our three upcoming fundraising events, the Friends will offer gift-giving suggestions for all ages.”
Since the Friends have a huge supply of children’s books and young adult books, this makes for a great opportunity to shop for the young people on your list.
The young adult non-fiction includes topics from magic to card tricks to pirates to space travel and many more. For the gamers on your list, the Friends have some Wii games.
As always, the price of a bag is $7, which can be filled with books, DVDs, CDs, and magazines and craft books. Of course, there are also jigsaw puzzles for all ages at $3 each.
Dutch Apple Theatre trip planned for July 11
Looking ahead, the Friends have planned a bus trip to the Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre in Lancaster to see “Mary Poppins.”
Although this event is on Saturday, July 11, a $25 per person deposit is due on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026.
“Christmas would be a good time to surprise the family with tickets to this beloved play,” Haubert added.
The price of the tickets, the buffet, and the bus trip is $130 for adults, $90 for ages 3 to 18.
“Make plans now before the seats are filled,” Haubert said.
The Friends want to help make everyone’s Christmas dreams come true, so mark Dec. 11 on your calendar.
