MIFFLINTOWN — While the Black Friday deals are still weeks away, some real bargains for readers can be found at the Friends of the Juniata County Library’s October Bag Sale.
From Tuesday, Oct. 21, through Thursday, Oct. 23, the Friends will have their shelves in the book cellar at the Juniata County Library, located at 498 Jefferson St., Mifflintown, stocked full of fiction and non-fiction books for both adults and children. For only $7, patrons can fill a bag full of books, CDs, DVDs, audiobooks and magazines.
“Thanks to the many donations the Friends have received during the summer, you will find most of your favorite mystery authors like Baldacci, Coben, Cussler and J.D. Robb,” said Friends of the Juniata County Library Publicity Chairperson Virginia Haubert.
“There are entire shelves dedicated to Nora Roberts and Danielle Steel, but there are also some very popular Colleen Hoover and Frieda McFadden books,” Haubert added.
She said this sale will be a one-stop shopping event for patrons since the Friends also plan to unveil and model their new sweatshirts sporting their new logo designed by Sarah Goshorn. The sweatshirts cost $28 and will be available for purchase.

As with their other sales, the Friends have many jigsaw puzzles for $3 and individually-priced gift baskets, which would make great Christmas gifts.
A special Friends-only preview is slated for Monday, Oct. 20, from 9 a.m. to noon. Memberships can be purchased at the door. This will also be a great opportunity to renew your membership for 2026.
Proceeds of the bag sale benefit the Juniata County Library. “The Friends depend upon the support of the public to help them keep the library open,” Haubert said. “Arrive early to buy your Christmas gifts and help our library.”
Membership forms are available at the library or on the library’s website, www.juniatalibrary.org.
