MIFFLINTOWN — Juniata County residents can expect changes to their property taxes in 2027 as a result of a county-wide reassessment, officials said Tuesday.

Mike Hower, of the Juniata County Board of Assessment and Revision of Taxes, told Commissioners during the board’s meeting that residents will receive notification of their new rate through 2026 and will have 40 days to appeal their property value.

Hower said the Board of Assessment is seeking five members to sit on the Juniata County Board of Assessment Appeals.

“Anyone in the county can appeal their property value every year if they want,” Hower noted.

Property value appeals must be submitted by Sept. 1, 2026, for consideration.

Anyone appealing their property value will come before the Board of Assessment Appeals and plead their case.

New board members must complete three online classes to be seated; each class lasts approximately two hours.

“We are looking for people with real estate experience or people who have bought and sold real estate and understand property value,” Hower said.

Call the reassessment office at (717) 436-7740 for more information.

In other news, Krista Varner, the clinical director of Phoenix Physical Therapy, and the physical therapy staff accepted the Commissioners’ proclamation that October is Physical Therapy Month.

Varner noted that individuals must have a prescription from a doctor to receive an appointment at Phoenix Physical Therapy.

“Physical therapy is about getting people back to where they want to be physically,” Varner said.

Phoenix Physical Therapy of Mifflintown offers a variety of programs to help every case, including occupational therapy, hand therapy, wheelchair evaluation, splint fabrication, workers’ compensation and employer solutions, orthopedic therapy, sports therapy, stroke recovery, and more.
