McAlisterville man cited for public drunkenness
LEWISTOWN — Justin J. Jones, 40, of McAlisterville, was cited for public drunkenness and lodged in the Mifflin County Correctional Facility in Lewistown until he was sober after an incident at a convenience store at 12:12 a.m. on Oct. 3, according to a release issued by the Lewistown Police Department on Friday. Officers responded to Sheetz, located at 113 N. Juniata St. in Lewistown for a report of two males photographing and harassing a juvenile female, the report said. Officers said Jones, who was intoxicated and possessed an open container of alcohol, was aggressive and making hand gestures simulating lewd acts. Officers attempted to get Jones out of public but he was uncooperative, the report said, and he was arrested for public drunkenness.
Derry Township man charged with aggravated, simple assault
LEWISTOWN — Lewistown Police Department officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Pannebaker Avenue in Lewistown for a report of an assault involving Aaron V. Lauver, 38, of Derry Township, at 5:55 p.m. on Oct. 2, according to a release issued on Friday. The caller said they were assaulted by Lauver but did not want him charged, the report said, and just wanted him removed from the residence. On Oct. 3, after another incident with Lauver, the same caller got punched in the nose and wanted to press charges, the report said, and went to the hospital for emergency treatment and was diagnosed as having a fractured nasal bone, upper jaw and skull fracture and chipped teeth. Since Lauver was under the supervision of Mifflin County Probation, a detainer for Lauver pending approval of an arrest warrant for aggravated assault, the report said. At 5:55 p.m. on Oct. 3, officers contacted Lauver, who was taken into custody, and charged him with aggravated assault and simple assault.
Motorcyclist charged with DUI
LEWISTOWN — A 53-year-old Granville Township man was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after Lewistown Police Department officers observed what appeared to be a motorcycle driving in circles in the middle of the road on South Walnut Street near Shaw Avenue without any lights on at night at 1:22 a.m. Oct. 4, according to a release issued on Friday. After stopping what turned out to be a motorized bicycle, officers identified Daniel L. Hoffner, who said he was getting a ride from a local bar, the report said. Hoffner showed indicators of impairment and admitted to recently consuming beer, the report said, and he refused to complete field sobriety tests. Hoffner was transported to the hospital where he refused to provide a sample of blood for toxicology, the report said.
Two charged in McClintock Avenue incident
LEWISTOWN — Michael Stephen Kellogg, 37, of Orbisonia, and an unidentified 32-year-old Lewistown man, were taken into custody at 7:15 p.m. on Oct. 4 after a disturbance in the area of 21 McClintock Avenue, according to a release issued by the Lewistown Police Department on Friday. A resident stated to police that two intoxicated males showed up trying to start a fight with a male who was named that did not reside at this location. The caller was on the phone with 911 when Kellogg approached her and ripped the phone away from her face, causing a red mark on her face, the report said. When officers arrived on scene, they found Kellogg to be highly intoxicated slurring his speech and eventually advised that he was under arrest, the report said. Kellogg broke free from an officer’s grip, the report said, and took off running. Officers deployed a Taser device and eventually tackled Kellogg and held him on the ground, the report said. Kellogg refused to surrender and was tasered again, the report said, and additional officers were able to secure Kellogg’s hands in handcuffs. He was held in Mifflin County Correctional Facility and charged with resisting arrest or other law enforcement, disorderly conduct, public drunkenness and borough ordinance violation for possessing open containers, the report said. The second person involved, a 32-year-old Lewistown man, was located at Sheetz. The man was found to have operated a vehicle while intoxicated and had an open container of alcohol was seen inside the man’s vehicle, the report said. The male driver conducted field sobriety tests and showed several indicators of impairment, the report said, and the driver was taken into custody for driving under the influence of alcohol and was transported to the hospital for a blood draw. A sample of blood was obtained and sent for toxicology, the report said, and the driver was released to a family member and charges for driving under the influence are pending toxicology reports.
