Rico Nasty’s “Lethal” has flown under the radar for many, but those who have tuned in have been treated to a multi-genre track list that demonstrates Rico’s range. Released on May 16, 2025, “Lethal” marks a bold return to her punk and alternative roots, echoing the energy that made her breakout album “Nasty” in 2018 a staple in modern rap.
But “Lethal” isn’t just a nostalgic trip back to her origins, it’s an evolution in her artistry.
The album kicks off with the infectious, rebellious spirit of “Smoke Break,” a track that feels like a perfect mix of her punk origins and rap roots. Rico Nasty’s fearless energy shines through in the high-octane guitar riffs and snappy production that calls back to the audacious tune “Countin’ Up” on the album “Nasty”.
But unlike some of her past projects, “Lethal” is fine-tuned. It caters to her hardcore fans and it branches out into softer, more vulnerable territories, offering a much-needed juxtaposition to the chaos.
A standout track that illustrates this shift is “On the Low,” where Rico taps into smoother, romantic R&B vibes. Her vocal range in “On the Low” impressively matches the lilting instrumentation.
The track feels like drinking a cup of tea on a cold October night, a departure from her usual fierce attitude, yet still authentically her.
But it wouldn’t be a Rico Nasty album without a banger, and “Lethal” delivers. “Teethsucker (Yeah3x)” is the album’s energetic anthem, blending catchy, bass-heavy beats with sharp, memorable lines.
Perhaps the most striking moment on “Lethal” comes in the song “Crash.” This track is where Rico opens herself up emotionally, using pop melodies and raw lyrics to deliver a powerful message of struggle and resilience.
In the chaotic landscape of 2025, “Crash” feels like a touchstone for many listeners navigating their own hardships.
Unfortunately, “Lethal” hasn’t received the recognition it truly deserves. While it’s clear that Rico’s growth as an artist has been met with some mixed reactions from critics and fans alike, there’s no denying the depth of this project.
“Lethal” brings a spectrum of emotions and musical styles to the table, from fiery punk anthems to emotional ballads.
In “Lethal,” Rico Nasty proves that she’s not just a genre-blending rapper; she’s a force to be reckoned with across genres.
“Lethal” will likely stand the test of time as one of her most ambitious and defining works.
