Marching Huskies claim Region 4 title, section honors

Bennett wins region college scholarship

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN — The Mifflin County High School Marching Huskies tuned up for this year’s Pennsylvania State Tournament of Bands Championship with their highest score so far this season.

Competing on Saturday night in the cool, crisp air at Blue Mountain High School, located in Schuylkill Haven, Schuylkill County, Mifflin County scored an 87.70 at the Tournament of Bands Region 4 Class 3-A Championships.

The Marching Huskies also took home special awards for High Auxiliary, High Percussion, High Visual and High Music.

“With assistance from directors from the Penn State Blue Band, the Mifflin County marching band worked very hard to prepare for the regional championships,” Mifflin County High School Director of Bands Brandon Kahley said. “All that hard work paid off with the band placing first in all categories and walking away with the highest score of our season and also in comparison to the nine bands in attendance.”

A surprise for the night; soloist and senior Reese Bennett received the Performer of the Week Award for Region 4. Reese was also awarded the Susquehanna Valley Region College Scholarship.

Up next for Mifflin County is the state competition, which is being held next weekend at Mansion Park in Altoona at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

“Looking forward to the students’ hard work and continued growth as we aim our sights to this weekend’s state championship at Altoona,” Kahley added.

Starting at $2.99/week.
