LEWISTOWN — The LUMINA Center is gearing up for a big anniversary as it prepares to celebrate three decades of serving the community.

“We hope to continue raising awareness of who we are and how we serve the children and youth of Mifflin County and inspire others to join us in the mission, in whatever ways they can,” explained LUMINA Executive Director Sherri Bickert.

To mark this milestone of 30 years of service, LUMINA will be hosting “Lights on LUMINA” at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 23 in the LUMINA Center.

The event will be a “fun, interactive, walk-through trivia game,” where the public will have an opportunity to view the entire building, catch a glimpse of all of LUMINA’s ministry and local business partners, and peruse the history as well as future plans and building projects needed.

Attendees will also have a chance to check out students’ projects and meet with LUMINA staff and board members.

According to Bickert, those attending the event can expect a “family and community-centered” event that will provide information about how community members can get involved in programs and/or support the LUMINA’s “efforts to serve the needs of children, youth and families” of Mifflin County.

Upon entry, each participant will receive a trivia booklet with questions about LUMINA, which can be answered as they proceed on a self-guided tour throughout the building. All completed submissions will be entered for the door prize.

At 5:30 p.m., there will be a special presentation by Mayor Deborah Bargo and LUMINA board members as well as a special performance of a couple songs from the afterschool program students and the introduction of a LUMINA Center Scholarship for current and future local seniors.

Other special guests include Walmart representatives who will serve cake and Mifflin County Academy Culinary Arts students who will serve their special “big” cookies.

There will be a table with information about LUMINA’s regular monthly and annual fundraisers, as well as the different ways community friends can make contributions to our organization. Any money raised will go directly to the overall operating budget expenses for the LUMINA Center, unless noted for a specific program or fund.

Starting at $2.99/week.
