Interim financing approved for sewer project
Trick or treat moved to Oct. 31
LEWISTOWN — The Lewistown Borough Council Monday approved an ordinance regarding interim financing for a sanitary sewer rehabilitation project in addition to changing the Borough trick or treat night, among other business.
Council members, in the absence of Jim Steele and Steve Knudson, approved to enact an ordinance authorizing, among other things, the issuance of a general obligation note in the maximum principal amount of $2,000,000.
The loan from Kish Bank will be applied toward the funding of the sanitary sewer rehabilitation project of the east and west sides of the Borough.
Council members also approved changing Lewistown Borough trick or treat night from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31.
Safe trick or treat night will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 24.
Earlier during the meeting, Borough Manager Tyler Fink discussed a five-year alley rehabilitation strategy.
Fink stated that many current alley conditions show severe deterioration with potholes, drainage issues, accessibility issues and more.
The Borough plans to create a five-year alley paving plan and target alleys in all four sections of the Borough in that span. Fink added that preventative maintenance with tar and chip should be completed on “good” alleys to increase their life span.
Council Vice President Robert Barlett gave the fire chief report in the absence of the Lewistown Fire Department Chief Robert Douglas.
Barlett shared that Sunday, Oct. 5, to Saturday, Oct. 11, is Fire Prevention Week.
Barlett added that a few months ago, City Hook and Ladder partnered with the American Red Cross to distribute and install smoke detectors free of charge.
He said that City Hook and Ladder still has smoke detectors left for those who live in the Borough. Those interested can contact Lt. Randy Baines at (717) 247-8325.
Council later approved to use the 2025 Liquid Fuel County Aid in the amount $7,335 to be used for the alley paving project.
