Housing Authority hosts food drive

LEWISTOWN — The Mifflin County Housing Authority will host its first-ever Race for Hunger food drive with a final collection day on Wednesday, Oct. 22.

This food drive benefits Mifflin County veterans and Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard.

Beth Hoar, an occupancy specialist for public housing at the Mifflin County Housing Authority, shared that the housing authority staff are in two teams to collect nonperishable food and personal hygiene items for the two organizations benefiting from this drive.

According to Hoar, Housing Authority Executive Director Wendy Hinkson, herself, and Jackie Marshall, who leads the Housing Choice Voucher Program, took part in organizing the drive.

Those who wish to donate may place items in boxes located in the lobby at the Mifflin County Housing Authority at 141 S. Pine Road. Drop items between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Staff will pick up donations on or before the final date of the food drive with the main collection time spanning from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 22.

Contact the Mifflin County Housing Authority at (717) 248-2624 to make arrangements if you would like staff to pick up donated items. Items can be placed in a bag on your porch for pickup.

Hoar shared that local Boy Scouts will deliver the donated items to Mifflin County veterans and Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard.

“We’re all doing our part,” Hoar said of the teamwork demonstrated by staff at the Mifflin County Housing Authority.

Hoar shared that the Authority not only aims to provide affordable housing, but they also get involved in the community.

“I think everyone is in this for the right reasons,” Hoar said.

Starting at $2.99/week.
