House fire shuts down Walnut Street

LEWISTOWN — Around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, firefighters from Chief Logan Fire Co. were called to 811 E. Walnut St., Derry Township, for reports of a house fire. Upon arrival, firefighters found a pile of debris on fire on the foundation and in the basement left from cleanup of a fire that occurred on April 10. Firefighters worked quickly and had the small fire suppressed in about 30 minutes.
Firefighters from Yeagertown Fire Co., City Hook & Ladder, Junction Fire Co., FAME EMS and local fire police assisted at the scene.
According to Mifflin County Regional Police Sgt. John Miles, the cause of the fire was accidental in nature caused by embers from a small burning debris pile at the rear of the property. Walnut Street was restricted to one lane during the incident and the roadway was reopened around 12:15 p.m.
