Borough Council discusses alley paving updates

LEWISTOWN — The Lewistown Borough Council met Monday to discuss updates to the alley paving project among other business.
Borough Manager Tyler Fink said that paving on South Pine Street alley, the alley between North Pine and North Walnut Street, and Pine Court will begin next week weather permitting.
Fink also stated that One-Stop Communications co-owner Mike Buffington looks to host food vendors on a section of Market Street every Thursday until about the end of November.
Council requested that local business owners weigh in on this potential event before moving forward.
Council members later approved to add five items to the council agenda including:
• The Oct. 29 Halloween Parade and the Oct. 24 Safe Trick or Treat Night;
• Amendment No. 2 for the engineer agreement changing the type of National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit to general for the the PENNVEST Project;
• A facility use form for the Festival of Ice from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Dec. 4 and 5;
• A request to waive fees for the City Hook and Ladder Craft Bazaar Fundraiser at the Community Center on Nov. 21 and 22;
• Placement of a handicap parking spot at 82 N. Pine St.
All items listed were approved in the absence of council members Steve Knudson and Larry “Heavy” Searer. Council President Matt Moore abstained from the vote to approve the City Hook and Ladder Craft Bazaar Fundraiser.
Borough Council members also:
-Approved Ordinance 2025 – 10 (Act 131 Council and Mayor Wages). Council members will make $4,190 and the Mayor will make $4,790 when they are elected or reelected in the next election cycle;
-Approved Ordinance 2025 – 11 (Chapter 200 Refuse Definitions Update);
-Approved to authorize Borough administration to sign any documents related to the acquisition of real estate;
-Approved a Christmas parade facility use form for the Community Center (pulled from the consent agenda). Moore voted against this motion;
-Approved the Community Center event on Nov. 15 (pulled from the consent agenda).
The Lewistown Borough council will meet next at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 3.
