RICHFIELD — It will be a celebration of God, faith, family and…tractors. Stony Run Mission’s 15th annual “Riding On Faith” tractor service will be held Sunday, Sept. 28 at Basom Memorial Park in Richfield.
“It’s our 15th annual tractor ride service we call ‘Riding on Faith,'” Stony Run Pastor Nick Smith said. “It’s a service for our community to worship together with us at Stony Run Mission. This year, Nottingham Four, [singing group] will be there sharing in song at 10 a.m.
Lunch is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Kettle-cooked soup and hotdogs will be provided. Guests are asked to bring a covered dish, dessert and drink to share.
“People are encouraged to bring a tractor to the service for a tractor ride through the rural area to follow the meal,” Smith said. “If people want to just ride there are several wagons being pulled to welcome riders to enjoy a country ride. The meal follows the service where two kettles of soup are prepared each year. Many people bring a dish to share as well. There are usually 20-30 tractors and around 250 plus people that attend the service each year. It’s a service, meal and ride that is open and welcome to all.”
How did a tractor ride become part of a church service? Smith explains.
“I came from a farming background with great passion for tractors,” he said. “When I came to the church with the idea of holding a service like this to share with the community, they were so supportive. It has been a highlight of many people each year to come be a part of a service like this. Some people even attend worship in their own church, and just come for the meal and or ride to follow. I’m very blessed to come together with many people to enjoy three great passions in my life, the Lord, my family and tractors.”
The tractor ride is from 1 to 3 p.m. Attendees are asked to bring lawn chairs. The rain date is Oct. 5. For more information, call Pastor Smith at (717) 694-3224.
