investigating counterfeit currency

LEWISTOWN — Lewistown Police Department officers are investigating a complaint of counterfeit currency by the Puff-N-Snuff, 129 S. Main St. in Lewistown at 7:57 a.m. on Sept. 25, after an individual attempted to purchase a large amount of items, according to a release issued on Friday. The cashier told officers that the bill was counterfeit and the male subject stated that the bill was legitimate and had been through the wash, the report said. The individual feld from the store when the cashier told them they were calling the police, the report said. Officers obtained a surveillance footage of a white male in a blue shirt, who has not been identified, the report said, and officers are attempting to identify this person for a criminal investigation. Lewistown man charged with

possession of drug paraphernalia

LEWISTOWN — A 44-year-old Lewistown man was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after Lewistown Police Department officers stopped him on the 500 block of Fairview Avenue in Lewistown at 11:07 a.m. on Sept. 19, according to a release issued on Friday. Initially, officers stopped Joshua J. Farleman due to an equipment violation, the report said. Police said a THC wax concentrate container was in plain view in the center console, the report said, and, when asked if there was anything else illegal in the vehicle, Farleman said there was methamphetamine in his bag. Officers located a meth pipe, several glass smoking devices and a marijuana grinder inside the bag, the report said. Farleman was under the supervision of Mifflin County Probation, and a detainer was issued and Farleman was lodged in the Mifflin County Correctional Facility in Lewistown, the report said.

Maryland man charged with possession and summary driving offenses

LEWISTOWN — Walter Chevez-Guzman, 31, of Adelphia, Md., was charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and summary driving offenses after Lewistown Police Department officers observed him in a vehicle with a black garbage bag covering a window on the first block of North Juniata Street at 12:34 p.m. on Sept. 19, according to a release issued on Friday. Officers stopped the vehicle – with its registration expired in 2024 – identified Chevez-Guzman, who also had a suspended Maryland license.

Belleville woman served with warrant for retail theft at convenience store

LEWISTOWN — Lewistown Police Department officers were dispatched to the Nittany MinitMart, located at 403 E. Walnut St. in Lewistown, at 2:01 p.m. on Sept. 19 for a report of retail theft, according to a release issued on Friday. Loss prevention had surveillance video of Mindy S. Bustillo, 41, of Belleville, in the store at 1:39 a.m. on Sept. 19, concealing $14.20 worth of merchandise and leaving the store without paying for it, the report said. Officers were summoned because Bustillo returned to the store, the report said, and officers identified Bustillo, the report said. Upon returning to the station, officers discovered that this offense was a felony offense due to Bustillo having four prior convictions for retail theft, the report said. A warrant was obtained and was served on Bustillo on Sept. 25, as she was incarcerated in the Mifflin County Correctional Facility in Lewistown on an unrelated offense, the report said.

Officers put out small fire at Kish Bank, caused by disgarded cigarette in mulch

LEWISTOWN — Lewistown Police Department officers responded to a bush on fire in front of Kish Bank, 115 S. Main St. in Lewistown at 10:08 p.m. on Sept. 19, according to a release issued on Friday. Officers extinguished the fire and the Lewistown Fire Department responded to extinguish hot spots in the mulch, the report said. A cigarette was found in the bush which likely ignited the fire, the report said.

Lewistown woman cited for retail theft after stealing soda from convenience store

LEWISTOWN — Kara Kovacic-Moore, 24, of Lewistown, was cited with summary retail theft after stealing a bottle of Mountain Dew from the Sheetz in Lewistown at 11:56 a.m. on Sept. 21, according to a release issued by the Lewistown Police Department on Friday. Officers received a report that a female stole a soda from the convenience store, the report said, and officers located Kovacic-Moore nearby on McClintock Avenue as she was drinking it. Kovacic-Moore admitted to the theft, the report said.

Lewistown woman charged with assault, obstruction and scattering rubbish

LEWISTOWN — Lewistown Police Department officers responded to the first block of Valley Street for a report from a 12-year-old child that their mother was having mental health issues and punched the child in the face at 1:03 p.m. on Sept. 21, according to a release issued on Friday. The child called the police without their mother’s knowledge and was hiding in a bedroom waiting for police to respond, the report said. Officers arrived and the mother, Rebecca M. Weatherly, 35, of Lewistown, refused to open the door. Weatherly was shouting at officers then began to engage with the child, at which time officers forced entry into the apartment to prevent further assaults from occurring, the report said. Weatherly barricaded herself and the child in a separate room using a dresser to block the doorway, the report said, but officers were able to force the door open. Weatherly threw a box fan at officers, the report said, and an officer made contact with the juvenile while Weatherly was detained. During this time, Weatherly began trying to access a nearby purse. Eventually, a taser device was deployed and Weatherly was secured in handcuffs. Officers spoke to the child who reported that they tried to speak to Weatherly about her tobacco use, the report said. The child called Weatherly a “bad mom” and Weatherly screamed at the child, punched the child in the face, and shoved the child, the report said, and the child had minor injuries to their mouth. When officers walked Weatherly outside to a patrol vehicle, she kicked a bag of garbage sitting along the curb. Weatherly was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, simple assault, obstructing administration of law and scattering rubbish, the report said.

Man charged with theft by unlawful

taking after taking employee’s sweatshirt

LEWISTOWN — Daniel Jay Feltch, 32, of Lewistown, was charged with theft by unlawful taking after removing a sweatshirt belonging to a Giant Food Store at 2:17 p.m. on Sept. 23, according to a release issued by the Lewistown Police Department on Friday. The Giant employee, who worked at 200 S. Dorcas St. in Lewistown, was stocking shelves when a customer removed the sweatshirt from his cart, the report said, and the sweatshirt contained two nicotine vapes valued at approximately $50.00. Officers obtained surveillance images and identified the male as Feltch, the report said, and officers located Fletch in an alley behind 20 Valley St. Feltch initially denied stealing the sweatshirt, the report said, but admitted taking the sweatshirt and throwing it in a nearby dumpster when confronted with surveillance images.
