Lewistown man cited for not securing his two dogs on Valley Street

LEWISTOWN — A 56-year-old Lewistown man was cited by Lewistown Police Department officers for offenses relating to not securing his animals after they were reported running loose on the 100 block of Valley Street in Lewistown at 7:32 a.m. on Sept. 5, according to a release issued on Friday. Officers tried to contact the owner, later identified as Jon Rozalewycz, at 128 Valley St. without success, and the dogs ran off, the report said. Officers came back to the area around 9:34 a.m. after an individual reported that the dogs killed a pet rabbit that was caged in a back yard, the report said, and officers tried to contact a local animal shelter but were unable to make contact with anyone. The dogs were secured and one of the dogs jumped through a window at the residence at 128 Valley St. The second dog was tethered pending contact with Rozalewycz.

Lewistown man charged with two counts of animal cruelty, neglect

LEWISTOWN — Jordon A. Sharar, 25, of Lewistown, was charged with two counts of animal cruelty and two counts of neglect by the Lewistown Police Department after officers found two dogs who appeared to be extremely malnourished at a residence on the first block of Central Avenue in Lewistown at 3:12 p.m. on Sept. 8, according to a release issued on Friday. Originally, a Lewistown Borough Codes Enforcement officer went to the residence regarding a trash complaint, the report said, and it was brought to the borough’s attention that a neighbor had a dog that was not being cared for and was extremely malnourished. A photo of the dog from when it had recently gotten loose was shared to a local social media group which depicted a Golden Retriever dog that had its ribs exposed, the report said. Codes enforcement reported a concern to police. Officers eventually spoke with Sharar, who made statements about why he has not been able to feed the dogs, the report said. Police contacted Rescue Our Furry Friends (ROFF), who took possession of the animals with Sharar’s permission.

Police investigating theft of minivan

LEWISTOWN — The Lewistown Police Department is investigating the theft of a 2011 white Chrysler Town and Country minivan parked at a service garage on South Main Street for the last few months, according to a release issued on Friday. A resident reported the vehicle stolen at 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 10. The van was inoperable and needed repairs, the report said, and the resident spoke with the garage owner who said they did not have the van removed. The van had a Pennsylvania license plate with MSY-6431 displayed on it, the report said. Officers are attempting to determine what happened to the van. Mechanicsburg man cited for retail theft at convenience store

LEWISTOWN — Matthew Roque, 34, of Mechanicsburg, was cited for retail theft after stealing food items on Sept. 9 and an audio cable on Sept. 10 at the Sheetz, located at 113 N. Juniata St., Lewistown, according to a release issued by the Lewistown Police Department on Friday. Offices contacted Roque at 12:47 p.m. on Sept. 11, the report said, and the total value of the stolen items was $35.15.

Lewistown man arrested for warrants in Mifflin, Snyder counties

LEWISTOWN — Lewistown Police Department officers observed a vehicle with a Maryland license plate turn from East Walnut Street onto Spring Street in Lewistown at 5:06 p.m. on Sept. 11, according to a release issued on Friday. The registration on the vehicle was suspended and the vehicle was not insured, the report said, and officers stopped the vehicle on Bridge Street. The driver, identified as Matthew S. Hartsock, 42, of Lewistown, had a DUI-suspended license, the report said. Officers observed several empty beer cans on the passenger floor and Hartsock had an odor of alcohol coming from him, the report said. Hartsock performed field sobriety tests and exhibited signs of impairment consistent with consuming alcohol and marijuana, the report said. Hartsock had 13 summary warrants from Mifflin and Snyder counties, the report said, and he also had a prothonotary warrant out of Mifflin County for a previous DUI arrest. Hartsock’s vehicle was towed and officers discovered a marijuana cigarette and THC vape cartridges in the vehicle when conducting an inventory search prior to having the vehicle towed, the report said. Hartsock was arrested and transported to the Lewistown Police Department where blood was drawn by a law enforcement phlebotomist, the report said. Hartsock was lodged in the Mifflin County Correctional Facility in Lewistown on his warrants and charges relating to DUI and other traffic offenses are pending toxicology reports, the release said.
