Marysville man faces homicide charges

From staff reports

MARYSVILLE — A Perry County man was jailed Monday on homicide charges after police said he “snapped” and shot his wife amid a domestic argument.

Douglas Wayne Snyder, 56, of Marysville, was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Tracy Powell on one count of felony homicide and one count of endangering the welfare of a child. Snyder is being held in Perry County Prison without bail due to the nature of the crime.

According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, police were called to 1465 New Valley Road, Rye Township at about 10:30 a.m. Monday regarding a shooting that had occurred.

Upon arrival, police said they found a deceased woman, identified as Samantha Fields, lying on the floor inside the front door with apparent gunshot wounds.

Police said during an interview, Snyder gave conflicting information, saying: “I guess I shot her, by accident” and “I honest to God did not just shoot my wife.”

He later told police in a recorded interview that he and Fields were engaged in a domestic argument, that Fields “threw a book at him as he was walking away from her, hitting him in the back of the head” and “I turned around, snapped and I shot her.”

Snyder said he then left the house for 13 hours with the child alone in the house.

Police said Snyder and Fields’ child said his mother was deceased when he woke up that morning.

Snyder is awaiting a preliminary hearing set for 1:15 p.m. Sept. 23 before Magisterial District Judge Tracy Powell.
