Food is common theme for this weekend’s slate

When it comes to things to do, who can argue when food is involved. Whether it’s that one more cup of tasty bean soup before the fair wraps, or spaghetti served at a benefit dinner or all-you-can-eat potpie meal to go, there’s plenty of food choices on this weekend’s menu. Oh, and there’s food at a slate of fairs and festivals, too. Check these out events:

All-you-can-eat ham pot pie meal

The Lack Tuscarora EMS, located at 9320 Route 75 South, East Waterford, is holding an all-you-can-eat ham pot pie meal on Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Enjoy ham pot pie, a roll, pepper slaw, applesauce, a beverage and dessert. The cost is $14 for adults, $7 for children and free for anyone under age 5.

Spaghetti benefit dinner

Hosted by the McVeytown Masonic Lodge and the Granville and McVeytown United Methodist churches, a spaghetti dinner benefit on Saturday, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Granville UMC, 1341 N. River Road, Granville. Eat in or takeout is available, Meals include spaghetti, meatballs, toss salad, roll and a whoopie pie. Meals cost $10 for adults and $5 for ages 6 and under. Proceeds benefit the Strodes Mills Elementary School Power Pak Lunch Program. For pre-orders, call (717) 242-1618.

Remembering Isaiah Ride

The Remembering Isaiah Ride is slated for Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Registration will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. in the side parking lot at Ollie’s Bargain Outlet, 211 N. Logan Blvd., Burnham. Kickstands go up at noon. All street legal vehicles are welcome. The cost is $25 per operator or driver and $5 per passenger. Other events include 50/50 raffle, Chinese auction and bike show – $1 per vote with prizes for the top 3. Proceeds go to Camp Manatawny.

Free movie night

Join the Reedsville United Methodist Church, 82 E. Logan St., Reedsville, on Sunday for a free movie night at 6:30 p.m. The movie, “The Perfect Wave,” will be shown, and refreshments will be served.

Based on true events. Scott Eastwood – son of screen legend Clint Eastwood – delivers a breakthrough performance as Ian McCormack, a rebellious young surfer who impulsively decides to leave home and travel the world’s most exotic surf spots. But living in the moment can have its thrills; including a romance with beautiful kindred soul Annabel, as well as it’s sacrifices.

And following a horrific accident and near-death experience on the Island of Mauritius, Ian receives a glimpse into eternity that will change his life forever. Patrick Lyster and Cheryl Ladd co-star in this inspirational true story about the power of faith, the love of family and one man’s search for “The Perfect Wave.”

Fairs and festivals

McClure Bean Soup Festival and Fair, through Saturday, 7. E. Ohio St., McClure. Once again the little town of McClure comes alive with sights and sounds as the 134th year of the fair is celebrated. The exhibits, concessions and amusement rides will be open through Saturday. Games, vendors and live entertainment will be available each night plus delicious food, of course including that famous bean soup. Live entertainment includes Why Not Me today, Little Rock and Ricochet on Friday and Ole 97 and Green River on Saturday. Find more information at mcclurebeansoupfestival.com.

Rothrock Fair, 4 to 10 p.m. through Saturday, McVeytown Playground, 5566 Route 22, McVeytown. Sponsored by the McVeytown Lions Club, this year’s theme is “Back to the Past” and the schedule includes: Today – Ham pot pie meal served by McVeytown United Methodist Church today, along with the fair opening, exhibit judging, food vendors and live entertainment by Chris Woodward and Shindiggin; Friday – Chicken barbecue meal with sides served by McVeytown Eagles, along with ice cream eating contest, live entertainment by DJ Chad Johnson and Mountain City Trio; and Saturday – Chicken pies meal served by Ellen Chapel, along with Fireman’s Parade by McVeytown Volunteer Fire Co.; and live entertainment by Jaded Lips. $3 parking benefits local fire police, EMS and McVeytown Presbyterian Church.
