McALISTERVILLE — The Fayette Fire Co. No. 4 in McAlisterville has been serving Fayette Township and neighboring communities since 1925. To mark their 100-year anniversary of volunteer fire service in Juniata County, the fire company is holding a weekend celebration.
Here’s a glance at the schedule for the three-day event.
Today
The weekend celebration kicks off with gift card bingo today. Doors open at 6 p.m., with bingo starting at 7 p.m. A ticket costs $25 and includes 20 games. For tickets, call Jeff Burd at (717) 254-3466 or Michele Varner at (570) 809-1182. Special games, 50/50 raffles, blackout, pull tabs and other raffles are not included in the ticket price. The kitchen will also be open for food.
Saturday
The highlights for Saturday’s activities include a parade and lots of food and fun at the adjacent Lost Creek Community Park. The food trucks and stands open for lunch at 11 a.m. to 5:30 or 6 p.m., while around noon some dignitaries are expected to visit.
The fireman’s parade steps off at 1 p.m. Formation will take place at Rickenbaugh’s Building Supply, starting at 12:30 p.m. No pre-registration is necessary. Anyone is welcome to participate.
“Our big event on Saturday is the parade,” Burd said. “It ends at the Bread of Life (Restaurant). The fire equipment will be judged.”
The fire company, which is always looking for volunteers, will also hold an open house. “We’re trying to get some new folks,” Burd said. “We’re always looking for volunteers for fire and EMS. Most of the members will be there.”
Square dancing will follow at 3 p.m. in the park, with the Keepin’ It Simple Band and caller Goldie Keys. Nick Smith will lead a blessing service after the dance. Smokey Bear and Andy the Ambulance will be on hand to visit with the kids. Among the day’s activities, there will also be pony cart rides, ducky swim, face painting, pull train rides and a bounce house. All of the activities — except the food vendors — are free.
Sunday
The fire company will host one of its buffet dinners from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday. Walk-ins are welcome.
“The bingo is a fundraiser for the fire company and Sunday’s meal is another one,” said Burd, who has served with the Fayette Fire Co. No. 4 and currently has the rank of captain. “We really appreciate everybody coming out.”
The all-inclusive buffet will cost $19 per person. There is also pricing for kids; anyone who is age 100 or more eats for free. The menu consists of roast turkey, glazed ham loaf, creamy coleslaw, tossed salad, cranberry relish, seasoned mashed potatoes, celery stuffing and gravy, broccoli with bacon dressing, Harvard beets, steamed crinkle cut carrots, green bean casserole, rolls and butter, assorted desserts, ice or hot tea and lemonade. Takeout is also available.
Here’s to another 100 years.
