Directors discuss consent agenda, board action items

LEWISTOWN — The Mifflin County School District Board of Directors met Thursday to discuss the consent agenda and board action items during the Committee of the Whole meeting.

Board President Zeb Harshbarger began the meeting with a moment of silence for the late Charlie Kirk.

Harshbarger said, “…political violence is in no way justified.”

Directors later discussed items on the agenda.

Consent agenda

Directors:

• Recommend approval of minutes of the Committee of the Whole meeting held Aug. 21;

• Recommend approval of minutes of the regular Board meeting held Aug. 21;

• Recommend approval of minutes of the regular Board meeting held Aug. 28;

• Recommend approval to hire Jody L. Weaver of Krise Transportation on a retroactive start date of Sept. 8;

• Recommend approval to hire Kelly Jo Keller of Rhodes Bus Co. on a retroactive start date of Sept. 15;

• Recommend approval for transportation and participation in the annual PA-TSA State Conference on April 15-18, 2026, at Seven Springs Mountain Resort. Students in attendance qualify through the Regional TSA Competition in January/February in order to be invited to the state competition. Students will be chaperoned by Ms. Conner and one other TSA advisor. At the event, students will participate in student-chosen events which showcase their academic abilities through completion of project-based design challenges;

• Recommend approval of a $500 stipend for Frank W. Miller for supervision of one teacher at the Pre-K Counts classroom at Panda Preschool and Daycare for the 2025-2026 school year, for this teacher to acquire their Level II certification. The stipend is paid by the daycare;

• Recommend approval of the use of the MCMS gym beginning at 7 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 14, and Sunday, Dec. 28, for Mifflin County Elementary Wrestling. Set-up will begin at 6 a.m.;

• Recommend approval of the proposal from the athletic department for all first responders to receive free admission to the Dec. 13 boys and girls basketball double header games where first responders will be honored.

Directors also:

• Recommend approval of the 2025-26 Inter-District Agreement for Non-Public Title I Services with Sacred Heart;

• Recommend approval to exonerate Diane Griffith, Mifflin County Treasurer, from collecting rollback taxes on parcel 19,07-0105J;

• Recommend approval of the Agreement for the Use of School Facilities as Mass Care Centers During Disasters between the Mifflin County School District and the Mifflin County Emergency Management Agency for the 2025-2026 school year;

• Recommend approval of Outdoor School for IVIS fifth-grade students on Oct. 21-24, and Oct. 28-31, to Camp Blue Diamond (part of Shaver’s Creek Center). Students stay for three nights and four days;

• Recommend the retroactive termination of Employee B- 09252025 effective Sept. 8.
