Directors approve new hires, transfers for 2025-26

LEWISTOWN — The Mifflin County School District’s Board of Directors regular meeting Thursday brought staff changes for the start of the new school year, with key moves in instructional support, cafeteria staff, and athletics, as well as a slate of new hires pending final clearances.

Among the personnel actions was the transfer of Jeannine E. Flick, who moves from her current role as a full-time autistic support paraprofessional at Indian Valley Intermediate School to a similar position focused on autistic and life skills support at Mifflin County Middle School. Flick’s transfer is effective Sept. 2.

Pamela K. Fortuna, previously approved on Aug. 21 as a substitute in the district’s cafeteria system, was awarded a new three-hour-per-day position as a part-time server-dishwasher at Lewistown Elementary School. Fortuna’s transition is pending completion of the district’s standard pre-employment process, including required background checks.

Two new hires, Emmah B. Rhodes and Samantha A. Decker, will join the Lewistown Elementary support team as full-time autistic support paraprofessionals. Both appointments remain contingent on completion of the district’s pre-employment requirements, including paperwork and clearances. Each will earn $17.28 per hour.

In addition to Rhodes and Decker, Danny R. Snyder was approved as a substitute cafeteria worker across the district at $13.25 per hour, pending the completion of necessary paperwork.

The board also approved Cody A. Sieber as the new systems support specialist for the district at an annual salary of $46,500. This addition to the administrative team is part of the district’s continued investment in information technology and infrastructure, an area of growing importance as both classroom and administrative operations rely on digital systems.

As part of the district’s commitment to supporting new educators, Joanna L. McKalips was named mentor for Michala R. Weidler, a long-term substitute in learning support at LES. McKalips will receive a stipend of $350 for her guidance during Weidler’s second year

of induction.

In athletics, Abigail P. Moon was appointed as a volunteer field hockey coach for the fall 2025 season, with her role retroactive to August 25. The board also approved Gabriel D. Winkles, Brett M. Leister, and Kirsten E. Schaefer as auxiliary personnel for the 2025-26 school year, with retroactive start dates corresponding to their respective approvals.

For extracurricular activities, Melissa A. Schomaker was approved as the Art Club Advisor at Mifflin County Junior High School for the 2025-26 school year, with a stipend of $510.

All new hires and position changes remain contingent on successful completion of background investigations, paperwork and any required licensure prior to employment.

Starting at $2.99/week.
