LEWISTOWN — The Juniata River Valley Visitors Bureau has announced the recipients of the 2025 Golden Feather Awards, presented annually to recognize individuals, businesses, or organizations whose efforts have advanced the visibility and success of the region’s Goose Day celebration.

This year’s honorees are Ryan Cherry, co-owner of East End Coffee Co., and Jason Ufema, owner of Shy Bear Brewing.

Cherry was recognized for his contributions in graphic design and event development. His creative work in branding–including Goose Day logos, signage, and advertising–has established the visual identity of the celebration. In addition, he co-hosts the Lucky Friday event, which has seen significant growth in recent years. East End Coffee Co. also actively participates in Goose Day by offering themed beverages and merchandise.

Ufema was honored for his leadership in expanding Goose Day’s culinary presence. Under his direction, Shy Bear Brewing has hosted events and served specialty goose dishes during the celebration. He also plays a pivotal role as a regional “goose broker,” coordinating large-scale orders of goose meat from a Midwest processor, which enables local restaurants to offer traditional meals at reduced costs.

“Goose Day thrives because of the people who pour their creativity, passion, and energy into keeping the tradition alive,” said Jenny Landis, executive director of the Juniata River Valley Visitors Bureau. “Ryan and Jason represent the spirit of community that makes our celebration one-of-a-kind, and we are grateful for their continued support.”

The Golden Feather Awards were established by the Juniata River Valley Visitors Bureau to recognize outstanding support for Goose Day, an annual tradition observed on September 29 in Mifflin and Juniata Counties. What began as a local custom has grown into a multi-day regional festival featuring food, entertainment, and cultural events.
