Township moves on Yeagertown Road project
LEWISTOWN — It was an easy decision for Derry Township to use this year’s Community Development Block Grant to continue work on its Yeagertown Road project phase two, officials said Monday.
Derry Township was approved by SEDA-COG to receive an allocation of $127,309 of CDBG funding for this project, the board said.
Madison Price, SEDA-COG representative for Mifflin County, also explained that due to a delay in other townships, the second public hearing for CDBG funds for the federal fiscal year 2025 is postponed to Sept. 18. The meeting will be held at the Mifflin County Courthouse.
Derry Township will also move forward with amending its zoning ordinance to provide regulations for solar energy systems, including battery energy storage systems.
Supervisors took this to the Mifflin County Planning Commission to be reviewed during the Thursday, July 24, meeting where Mifflin County Planning Director James Lettiere, who reviewed the ordinance — encouraged the board to adjust language in the ordinance to offer more clarity on the definition of “land development.”
The board also plans to amend the ordinance to regulate principal energy solar systems to establish a new section to permit battery energy storage systems as conditional uses in the rural estate zoning district in the township as well as establish regulations for battery energy storage systems in the township.
After being in touch with their attorneys, supervisors were advised that no changes need to be made to the ordinance stating that the language they used does cover the township.
The mini golf course at Kish Park is still moving along as officials awarded a request for proposals for the mini golf course design and course to Harris Miniature Golf Courses in the amount of $417,980 at Monday’s meeting.
In other news, officials approved the invoice for Mike’s Landscaping and Excavation for the demolition of 545 and 547 Woodland Avenue demolition in the amount of $21,888.
Officials announce that the lot is up for bid with a few offers already on the table. Individuals interested should contact Kelly Shutes at the Derry Township office.
