Summer book sale set for Thursday

MIFFLINTOWN — Summer might be winding down, but the Friends of the Juniata County Library are squeezing in one last blast – with a one-day bag sale.

From 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, the second of two one-day book sales will be held at the Juniata County Library, located at 498 Jefferson St., Mifflintown. Like other bag sales, each bag costs $7 and can be filled with books, CDs, DVDs and magazines. Jigsaw puzzles will also be available for $3 each.

The first hour — from 9 to 10 a.m. — is dedicated as the “Friends Only” time. There will be a special preview sale for members of the Friends of the Library only as a way to thank them for their support, allowing them the first chance to buy books. Of course, Friends’ memberships can also be purchased at the door.

Since the Friends continue to get regular book donations, they have the book cellar open from 9 a.m. to noon every Monday that the library is open.

On these Mondays, items are priced individually instead of by bag. Hardbacks are $2; paperbacks and young adult books as well as CDs and DVDs are $1. Most magazines and children’s books are 25 cents. There are also some specialty items such as gift baskets and puzzles.

“The Friends of the Library use all proceeds from their fundraising projects to help the library maintain its services after the huge funding cut from the county commissioners,” Haubert added.

They are counting on the community for their support.
