Around 6 p.m. Monday, firefighters from Thompsontown Fire Co. and EMS were sent to 12 E. Main St. in Thompsontown for reports of an apartment building fire.
According to Thompsontown Fire Co. Chief Jay Walton, on his arrival, he saw a large volume of smoke billowing from the second floor of the building.
Walton reported that initially, crews were making good progress. Then, the fire found a common space between 12 and 14 E. Main St. and jumped into the adjoining building.
Firefighters fought this stubborn fire for about one hour before the fire seemed to be under control.
Walton said that the buildings, which held a total of four housing units, displaced at least six persons, all of whom were uninjured.

Walton added that several firefighters were evaluated at the scene for various minor complaints. Walton turned the scene and investigation over to the fire marshal from the Pennsylvania State Police of Lewistown.
Firefighters from three counties assisted Thompsontown Fire Co. at the scene including Friendship Fire Co. of Port Royal, Mifflintown Hose Co., Fayette Fire Co., Beale Township Fire Co., Delaware Township Fire Co., Liverpool Fire Co., Millerstown Fire Co., Newport Fire Co., Chief Logan Fire Co., Thompsontown EMS, Fayette Township EMS, Pennsylvania State Police, and local fire police.
