Police investigating animal cruelty

MIFFLINTOWN — According to a report officers are still investigating an animal cruelty report involving a white 2007 Ford Focus. The report states that officers were notified on Friday, Aug. 8, around 4 p.m.

Police: driver strikes 2 vehicles in DUI crash

MIFFLINTOWN — Officers responded to a three-vehicle car accident that took place on Wednesday, July 31.

Around 8:30 p.m. Gregory Martine Jr, 60, of Mapleton Depot, was traveling on US Highway 322, west in a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee, when the vehicle left the left lane, striking a 2023 GMC.

Police said Martine continued down U.S. 322 going west, crossing over Cuba Mills Road. The vehicle then struck the rear quarter panel of a 2025 Mercedes-Benz, causing disabling damage to both the Benz and the Cherokee.

Martine left the roadway on the right side, traveling through grass and into trees. Police said he was not wearing his seatbelt and was severely injured in the crash.

All occupants inside the Mercedes-Benz were wearing their seatbelts and were not injured.

The passengers of the GMC were also not injured and the vehicle did not sustain any damage from the crash, police said.

The report states that Marinte was believed to be under the influence at the time and was charged accordingly.
