Locals mobilize in search for missing man from Richfield

Gary Graybill
RICHFIELD — The search for a missing Richfield man has drawn an urgent response from first responders and the local community, as authorities and volunteers continue efforts to find 69-year-old Gary Graybill, who disappeared Monday morning.
Graybill was last seen at about 9:30 a.m. Monday near Heister Valley Road in West Perry Township, Snyder County. He is described as 6 feet tall, weighing 170 pounds, with gray hair and green eyes.
According to state police, he was last seen wearing a blue flannel shirt and black shorts. Police say Graybill may be at special risk of harm or injury, as he has Parkinson’s disease and cognitive impairment. His condition has heightened concerns and intensified the search.
Initial search efforts by authorities and local fire companies on Monday spanned the day and into the night but did not locate Graybill. As the hours have stretched into days, the Richfield Fire Company has appealed to the public for help. In a post on its social media page, the fire company called for volunteers to assist in a coordinated search, set to begin at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Community members have been asked to gather at 4259 Heister Valley Road. The only requirement for volunteers is the ability to walk through wooded terrain. Organizers suggested participants bring an orange hunting hat or traffic vest if possible. The request went out to individuals, church groups, and local businesses, with the fire company urging, “Please help this family if possible.”
The coordinated volunteer search highlights how a small community often comes together in a crisis. Fire company volunteers and neighbors have organized search grids, combing the woods and fields around the last known location. As concern for Graybill’s well-being grows, so has the turnout, with residents stepping forward to assist authorities and show support for the family.
State Police at Selinsgrove remain the lead agency in the search and investigation. They have asked anyone with information about Graybill’s whereabouts to contact their barracks at 570-374-8145 or call 911. Police continue to follow up on leads and tips from the public.
As of Wednesday, a spokesperson for the Richfield Fire Company said there were no updates to share on Graybill’s status or the results of the ongoing search.
The effort to find Gary Graybill has become the focus of the Richfield area, with fire company members, police, and volunteers working side by side.
