LEWISTOWN – Mifflin County School District’s Board of Directors addressed a range of personnel matters during its regular meeting on Thursday. The board approved new hires, resignations, retirements, transfers, mentors, tenure awards, athletic appointments, and additional extracurricular positions for the 2025-26 school year.

Several employees submitted resignations or retirements, including:

* Emma J. Reid, Head Jr. High Field Hockey Coach, resigned for other employment;

* Susan E. Stroup, 2nd Shift Custodian at Strodes Mills Elementary School, will retire effective Oct. 3;

* Diana L. Shaffer, part-time cafeteria cashier and server at Lewistown Elementary School, resigned for other employment;

* Janel N. Ciancarelli, Autistic Support Teacher at Lewistown Elementary, resigned for other educational employment;

* Ethan J. Kauffman, Health and Physical Education Teacher at East Derry Elementary and Mifflin County Junior High, resigned for other educational employment;

* Kelly L. Aston, Head Varsity Volleyball Coach, resigned for personal reasons;

* Shaenah T. Furman, part-time Person in Charge at Lewistown Elementary, resigned for personal reasons, but will remain on the cafeteria substitute list;

Position dissolutions led to the displacement of Susan C. Jodon, Learning Support Paraprofessional at Mifflin County High School, and Beth M. Gwilym, Life Skills Support Paraprofessional at Mifflin County Junior High.

The board approved several staff transfers:

* Kenneth E. Hatter Jr., from substitute custodian to first shift custodian at the high school;

* Nathan G. Beaver, from substitute custodian to first shift custodian at East Derry Elementary;

* Carrie A. Fox, from second shift custodian at the high school to second shift custodian at Strodes Mills Elementary;

* Cheryl A. Burns from cafeteria substitute to part-time satellite kitchen cashier at the Academy;

* Tracy D. Druckemiller, from part-time cafeteria cashier to longer hours as part-time cashier at Lewistown Elementary;

* Kathy L. Kohler from part-time prep/server to cashier/server-dishwasher at Lewistown Elementary;

The district welcomed several new staff:

* Legend B. Bruner, Long-Term Substitute Reading Teacher at Mifflin County Junior High.;

* Meghan P. Smith, Autistic Support Teacher at Lewistown Elementary;

* Shane A. Davis and Christina M. Laub, Full-Time Emotional Support Paraprofessionals at Mifflin County Middle School;

* Zoey E. Fellows, Guidance Secretary at the high school;

* Samantha J. Laird, Part-Time Autistic Support Paraprofessional at Lewistown Elementary;

* Rylie E. Kepner, Administrative Secretary at Indian Valley Elementary/Intermediate;

All new hires are required to complete the necessary background checks and paperwork.

Mentor teachers and their mentees were approved, with stipends ranging from $350 to $1,000 depending on the assignment. Full induction and mentor-only pairings were designated across various schools and disciplines.

Twenty-five teachers received tenure, including educators in elementary grades, English, special education, health and physical education, art, ESL, library, and social studies.

The board appointed the following paid athletic coaches for the upcoming school year:

* Jennifer L. Ruble, Head Jr. High Softball Coach; Raymond R. Hoppel Jr., Head Baseball Coach; Tamara C. Sechler, Head Track & Field Coach; Jeffrey C. Mazurek, Head Boys Tennis Coach; Brett A. Rogers, Head Boys Lacrosse Coach; Halle R. Kerstetter, Assistant Jr. High Field Hockey Coach; Alexander J. Monroe, Assistant Indoor Track & Field Coach; Nicholas P. Kubalak, Assistant Jr. High Football Coach (salary correction); Natalie M. Faith, Head Jr. High Field Hockey Coach (moved from assistant); Danielle R. Napikoski, Head Volleyball Coach; D. Scott Uhlinger, Assistant Volleyball Coach;

*Volunteer athletic coaches approved include:

*Auxiliary personnel for the 2025-26 school year include Jeffrey C. Mazurek, Margaret J. Fisher, and Aileen L. Querry.

Other Appointments

* Jillian M. Kochenderfer was named PBIS Coach at Lewistown Elementary; Dustin M. Riden was named Co-Op Coordinator at Mifflin County High School, with a stipend retroactive to July 1;

* Building leader stipends were approved for Jennifer J. Hartzler at Lewistown Intermediate School and Joshua D. Grimes at Mifflin County Middle School.
