LCC ready to drop ball with its annual Ball Drop fundraiser

LEWISTOWN — The Junction Fire Co.’s bucket truck hovered over the golf green at the Lewistown Country Club on the No. 9 hole. That was the landing spot.

And yes, when first responders from Lewistown with a large truck want to play through on a golf course, they get to play through.

This was all by design, of course. This was not an emergency landing at the LCC course. This was all part of an interesting fundraiser for LCC — its Fifth Annual Lewistown Country Club Ball Drop.

“This is the fifth year the Ball Drop has been held at Lewistown Country Club and every year it gets bigger,” said Jill Wagner, LCC Membership Committee chairperson. “Every golf course requires constant maintenance, which is expensive. Equipment, chemicals, labor and repair costs continue to increase each year.”

The Ball Drop will be held Friday, July 25, at 6 p.m. The fun-filled event is open to the public and features up to 1,000 numbered plastic golf balls dropped from the sky.

There are cash prizes for golf balls closest and farthest from the hole, live music entertainment at 5 p.m. by DJ Ritty — Jim Rittenhouse — followed by the band Petrified Wood as well as food specials. Every year attendance has increased, and last year more than 200 people enjoyed the festivities.

The bucket truck and first responders were there to load up all of those golf balls, lift them up high then drop them on the green. The golf balls, each labeled with a number, that got closest to the hole would be the winner. People who bought those golf balls would take home the prizes.

LCC has felt like the winner the past four years. This yearly summer event raises much needed funds for projects that not only improve the golf experience at LCC but benefit all area golfers.

More than $12,000 was raised in 2024, and organizers are hoping to top that number this year. Last year’s proceeds were used to purchase course mowers and tractors and chemicals.

“The better the course and facility the more golfers we attract both locally and from outside the area. This influx of golfers is a boon to other local businesses as well. We want to highlight the natural beauty of our area and as well as the camaraderie of the local golf community,” said Susie Cannon, LCC Membership Committee member.

Tickets cost $10 each and are available at the LCC business office or from members. Tickets will be sold until 6 p.m. on July 25. Doors open at 5pm. Attendees are encouraged to bring folding chairs.
