Carnival season is in full swing in Juniata Valley

The Deacons of Dixieland are slated to perform at Shy Bear Brewing in Lewistown on Sunday.
The turn of the calendar to August has certainly brought carnival season to the Juniata Valley.
The Calvary Bible Church’s Annual Community Carnival at Rec Park takes place in Lewistown from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. Carnival goers will find games, activities and food for free. There will also be a school supply giveaway.
Fayette Community Carnival
In McAlisterville, the Fayette Community Carnival wraps up on Saturday at the Lost Creek Community Park. The carnival runs daily from 4 to 10:30 p.m.
This year’s theme is “Lake Life.” Carnival goers can enjoy rides, games, Chinese auction, bingo, delicious food, live music and the 30th Annual Vehicle Show. Weekly arm bands are also available for carnival goers who plan to attend at least three nights.

The carnival’s main dish menu includes ham loaf today; pork and sauerkraut on Friday; and chicken barbecue on Saturday. For the chicken barbecue, halves cost $7 and dinners are $10. Meals include: French fries, baked beans, coleslaw or applesauce and roll. Halves are served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with meals available after the parade only. Halves must be picked up by 6:30 p.m.
For live entertainment, Bella Donna takes the stage at 7 and 8:30 p.m. today; Mercy Run at 7 and 9 p.m. Friday; and Adult Swim at 7 and 8:30 p.m. Saturday.
Other highlights include the parade stepping off from Rickenbaugh’s at 4 p.m. Saturday. Proceeds from the carnival benefit the Fayette Fire Co., Fayette Lions Club and Fayette Township Community Building Association.

Antique Firearm Day
Check out a bunch of beautiful, old firearms from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Tuscarora Academy Museum, 472 Academia Road, Mifflin.
Make-A-Wish Weekend
Waterside Campground & RV Park, 475 Locust Road, Lewistown, is hosting Make-A-Wish Weekend on Friday and Saturday. Proceeds benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. There will be 50/50 tickets, rip tickets, bake sale, coin drive, walk-a-thon and a golf cart wash.
Self-guided scavenger hunt
Continuing through Tuesday, Greenwood Furnace State Park, Greenwood Road, Huntingdon, is sponsoring a self-guided scavenger hunt where park goers can learn about different animals that lay eggs while searching for a total of 10 cards hidden around the park. The hunt begins in the breezeway of the park office.
