Locust Grove Mennonite Church to host laser tag tonight

BELLEVILLE — Teaming up with Locust Grove Mennonite Church for the weekend, Forrest Chapman and his family will be setting up a free laser tag event, Friday, Feb. 7 beginning at 6 p.m. at the church, located at 3358 W. Main St., Belleville.

Chapman and his family travel the United States sharing the gospel through volunteering their time, equipment and a good time to churches with this fun laser tag event.

They have already teamed up with other churches in the area to offer this unique experience combining fellowship with a fun time.

Chapman has been involved in kids’ ministry since his teen years.

He received much of his kids’ ministry training from Charles Homsher, the founder of Neighborhood Bible Time and his theological training from Calvary Baptist seminary where he earned his masters of divinity.

Starting the night with a fun assembly complete with prizes and competitions, kids are then put into groups according to grade just for the laser tag portion of the night.

Each group has 30 minutes of laser tag.

When they are not participating in laser tag, there are games such as gaga ball, four square, video games, tabletop arcade games and board games, along with pizza and snacks for them to enjoy throughout the night.

Kids can go to whichever they want and hang out with their friends.

The Locust Grove Mennonite church is inviting children in third through sixth grade to enjoy three hours of fun, with the event ending at 9 p.m.

“Of course, we will also have a Gospel message,” said Chapman.

“Another assembly about half way through the night where Mr. Forrest from Mr. Forrest Ministries tells the children God’s plan of salvation in a way that leaves the kids on the edge of their seat and wanting to hear more”, says Kara Kauffman, Children’s Ministry Coordinator

Chapman has been speaking at camps, youth retreats, vacation Bible schools, and special events for more than 20 years.

“Churches contact us and have us come in and help them run an outreach on Friday. And, then, oftentimes on Saturday we will do a kid’s ministry workshop with the church family. And, then, on Sunday, either preach in the church meeting or run their kids ministry program so they can see how we do it,” Chapman said.

“This is our third year holding the laser tag outreach. The kids look forward to it every year, often asking when we are having it months in advance”, Kauffman said.
