Hower seeks another term as Juniata County treasurer

MIFFLINTOWN — Laurie S. Hower, current treasurer of Juniata County, has announced her candidacy for re-election for a second term.
Hower assumed the duties of the Treasurer’s office in 2022, including the sale of dog licenses, hunting/fishing licenses and small games of chance and bingo licenses.
Other important functions of the treasurer’s office are overseeing and accounting for income that comes into the county, including grant money, tax revenue and any other miscellaneous income.
This involves working closely with many other departments in local government, the commissioners and all elected tax collectors.
When asked what has been her favorite part of being treasurer Hower stated, “I love working with people and serving the public on a daily basis and I am blessed to have two wonderful employees who work alongside me in our office: Mary Speece, full-time deputy treasurer and Lori Leach, part time clerical staff, and we make a great team.”
Hower also stated, “I have been proactive at planning and looking ahead to the future. I am currently working on ways to improve the efficiency of many functions and services within the treasurer’s office in the next several years. If re-elected, I will continue to faithfully work hard to serve the residents of Juniata County.”
Hower has extensive fiscal experience in many areas, operated a small business for seven years and also served two years as an auditor for Port Royal Borough. She is also a licensed notary public and is a member of the County Treasurer’s Association of Pennsylvania, the Juniata County Republican Committee and also a member of Cedar Grove Brethren in Christ Church. Hower is a lifelong resident of Juniata County. She and her Husband, Timothy, currently reside in Fermanagh Township. They have two grown children, Michael and Vanessa, and two grandchildren, Ava and Ivy.
