Officials approve tax exoneration
Action to relieve 2024 county per capita tax burden
LEWISTOWN — The Mifflin County Commissioners began their first meeting of 2025 by approving a request for the exoneration of the 2024 county portion of per capita taxes. Tax Collector Sherry Miller submitted the request, which received unanimous support from the board, aiming to relieve financial burdens on residents across all townships.
Following the tax exoneration, the commissioners addressed appointments to the Mifflin County Housing Authority. Chelsea Reed was appointed for a five-year term, and Micaela Mills was approved to fill an unexpired term that will end on Dec. 31, 2025.
The board reappointed Kay Semler, Dan Dunmire, and Daniel Firth to the Mifflin County Planning Commission for four-year terms, ensuring continuity in the county’s planning efforts.
Commissioners Postal and Wise received appointments to the Central Counties Youth Detention Center Board. This action enhances the county’s representation in discussions concerning youth services and juvenile justice.
Several personnel changes were also discussed. Addison Lane resigned from her position as a part-time corrections officer, effective immediately. Megan Snook resigned from her role as Children and Youth Office Manager, effective January 10. Tammy Wagner announced her resignation from the Court Tipstaff position, effective Feb. 28.
The board approved the hiring of R. Ann Kanagy for the Court Tipstaff role, effective Jan. 28. Joshua Pennepacker was promoted from 911 Telecommunicator to 911 Manager, effective Dec. 29, 2024.
The hiring of Brian Fleegal as a part-time 911 Telecommunicator was also approved, with a start date of Jan. 13. Susie Slonaker will transition from full-time to part-time status, effective Jan. 5. Additionally, Tod Fink resigned as a part-time corrections officer, effective Jan. 10, and Madison Rensinger resigned from her role as Field Assessor, effective Jan. 17.
