LEWISTOWN — Derry Township officials conditionally approved the Wawa subdivision and land development plan during their regular monthly meeting Tuesday.

Tony Fruchtl of PennTerra Engineering who leads this subdivision project was in attendance to inform officials of what will take place during this project.

The plan involves the development of a 6,049-square-foot gas station and convenience store with eight fuel pumps.

The building will be located along Ferguson Valley Road, west and adjacent to US Highway 322, and northwest of the intersection of Valley Meadow Drive, and approximately 526 feet from the intersection of Reserve Lane and Ferguson Valley Road.

This area was previously used as the staging area for the development of the Primary Health Network Facility which is located east of where workers will build this new gas station.

The plan calls for 71 parking spaces and four ADA-compliant spaces.

Officials asked the engineering team to obtain approval from the PA Department of Environmental Protection to reroute a sewer line issue.

The Department of Environmental Protection’s mission is to protect Pennsylvania’s air, land, and water resources and to provide for the health and safety of its residents and visitors, consistent with the rights and duties established under the Environmental Rights Amendment (Article 1, Section 27 of the Pennsylvania Constitution).

Fruchtl also stated that the developer who owns the adjacent property has some reservations about capacity, but he hopes to sort out any issues while moving forward with township officials’ conditional approval.

Officials also approved a subdivision plan for Douglas and June Romig as presented by William Sarge of Sarge Engineering.
