Lewistown man killed in ATV accident

LEWISTOWN — A 73-year-old Lewistown man died from injuries he suffered in a one-vehicle all-terrain vehicle accident on Thursday night in Decatur Township, according to Pennsylvania State Police at Lewistown.

A Public Information Release Report issued Sunday said state troopers were dispatched to the area where Route 522 North intersects with Kearns Road at 8:23 p.m. after an accident was reported.

The report stated troopers found Gary L. Clark lying unresponsive on the roadway. Police said the crash occurred as Clark, who was driving northbound in a 2011 Polaris Sportsman, attempted to navigate a right-hand curve in the roadway when his hat flew off his head. The report said he reached to grab the hat, causing him to pull on the handle of the ATV.

Police said the ATV’s wheels caught on the roadway and caused it to rollover, ejecting Clark from the vehicle. The report stated the roadway was paved and had a double-yellow line intersecting the lanes of traffic.

Police said Clark was transported by FAME Emergency Medical Services to Geisinger in Danville. The report indicated he was not wearing any safety equipment.

Troopers said in the report that Clark may have been driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance.

State police were assisted by FAME EMS, Chief Logan Dire Co., Junction Fire Co., Decatur Fire Co. and Mifflin County Regional Police Department.
