Fire, EMS grants to support first responders

From Staff Reports

MIFFLINTOWN — Fire and EMS companies in Juniata and Perry counties will share more than $360,000 in grants through the Pennsylvania Fire Company and Emergency Medical Services program.

Twenty-four squads in Perry’s 86th District are recipients of the grants administered by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and state Office of the State Fire Commissioner. Other companies throughout the state received funding, too.

The money, generated from slot machine gaming, can be used for facility upgrades, equipment purchases or repair, debt reduction, education and public outreach, training, or volunteer recruitment and retention.

“Firefighters and those who provide emergency medical services put themselves on the line every day for our townships and boroughs. Most do so as volunteers. These grants are one small way to support their tireless efforts and boost public safety,” said Pennsylvania Rep. Perry Stambaugh, R-Perry/Cumberland.
