Stolen property, fleeing charges filed

LEWISTOWN — Officers from the Lewistown Police Department were notified that 39-year-old Eric Heck stole a white Chevrolet pickup from Swatara Township, Dauphin County, and that he might be in possession of it.

Officers received a call Saturday around 10:45 p.m. that Heck was on the 200 block of East Third Street and known to have an active arrest warrant.

According to the report, once on scene officers observed the white pick up and saw Heck flee the area on foot.

Heck was apprehended a short distance from the scene and taken to the hospital to be evaluated for suspected injuries and held in the Mifflin County Correctional Facility on a state parole detainer for absconding as well as charges of receiving stolen property, flight to avoid apprehension, evading arrest or detention on foot, and disorderly conduct.

Woman who hit parked car charged with DUI

LEWISTOWN — Lewistown Police Department responded to an incident involving a three-vehicle accident on Montgomery Avenue in which a vehicle struck a parked car resulting in that vehicle hitting another.

Police said at about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 28, officers observed Rachel Reesman, 33, of Lewistown, who they said admitted to having consumed various drugs.

Reesman was transported to the hospital for a medical evaluation where a legal blood draw was taken and results showed a large amount of controlled impairing substances present in Reesman’s blood.

Woman charged with retail theft

BURNHAM – Mifflin County Regional Police Department were dispatched at about 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18 to Weis grocery store regarding a series of retail thefts that occurred between July 7 and Aug.18, 2023, totaling $177.60.

Loss prevention personnel were able to identify the individual responsible as Heather McCoy, 35, of Burnham.

McCoy was charged with retail theft through Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Reed’s office.

Man charged with evading arrest

YEAGERTOWN — While on patrol officers from Mifflin County Regional Police observed a 1999 Honda motorcycle being operated in an unsafe manner.

As officers approached the motorcycle, it crashed into a fence near the intersection of North Locke Avenue and Fourth Street, the report says

The operator identified as Scotty Vaughn, 33, of Lewistown, initially tried to restart the motorcycle before fleeing on foot but he was apprehended a short distance away.

According to the report, further investigation revealed that Vaughn was under the influence of alcohol and in possession of marajuana paraphernalia.

Vaughn was charged with fleeing or eluding a police officer, evading arrest, DUI, and possession of drug paraphernalia through Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Reed’s office.

Man processed for DUI

LEWISTOWN — Mifflin County Regional Police received a call regarding a vehicle traveling in the opposing lanes of travel on US Highway 22/322 in the Lewistown Narrows at about 4:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 20.

Officers located the vehicle, a 2006 Volkswagen when it crashed into guide rails on state Route 22 near the Crown Motel.

The operator of the vehicle was identified as Pierson Freet, 21, of Thompsontown, who was revealed to be under the influence of alcohol.

The investigation is still ongoing. Fleet was processed for DUI but charges are currently pending.

Police urge residents to lock doors

LEWISTOWN — Mifflin County Regional Police Department urges residents of the Highland Park area and Derry Township to park their vehicles in a well lit location when possible and always secure the vehicle.

Officers reported that in August of this year, they received numerous complaints of theft from unlocked vehicles.

Police also would like to encourage residents to remove items of value from the vehicle before leaving it unattended.

Any suspicious activity in the area should be reported to authorities.
