Fairs, festivals highlight upcoming weekend

Looking for something to do with family and friends this weekend? Check out these five events around the Juniata Valley:

1. Rothrock Fair in McVeytown through Saturday

The Rothrock Fair returns to the McVeytown Playground, Route 522, McVeytown, this weekend. Live music, food, rides, vendors and exhibits highlight a fun-filled slate of activities. For more information, find their page on Facebook.

2. Race to end kids cancer at LCRC Raceway

The Lost Creek Remote Controlled Raceway, 29207 Route 35 North, Oakland Mills, will host a special weekend of offroad remote control racing as proceeds benefit kids cancer research at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital with the Cancer Race. There will be races in 12 different classes, along with raffles, glow bingo, corn hole and food trucks. The public is invited to attend the event, which runs today through Sunday. Hours are: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday will be determined by the number of entries. For more information, (717) 463-9173 or visit www.lcrcraceway.com.

3. Apple Festival in Reedsville Saturday

Bender Park in downtown Reedsville will be filled with the aroma of apples with the seventh annual Apple Festival from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. This year’s festival features an apple butter boil, apple pie baking contest, kid’s activities and the return of the Keystone Studebaker Driver’s Club, along with musical entertainment and vendors. 4. Museum Day throughout Juniata Valley Saturday

Museums throughout the Juniata Valley will open their doors for free from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. More than 20 museums in Mifflin, Juniata and Huntingdon counties will be open for tours. For some locations, this is the only day they are open all year. Visit the Facebook event page for a list of locations.

5. Beaver Community Fair opens Sunday

Fair season is winding down but not before the weeklong Beaver Community Fair comes to the Beaver Springs Fairgrounds, 785 Snyder Ave., Beaver Springs. The event features rides, games, music, food, livestock shows, exhibits and tractor pulls. For more information, visit www.beaverfair.org.
