State police respond to 9-1-1 hangup call, issue reminder
THOMPSONTOWN – Pennsylvania State Police at Lewistown were alerted to a 9-1-1 call coming from an unregistered cell phone at 8:31 a.m. on Tuesday, July 11, according to a Public Information Release Report issued on Saturday. The 9-1-1 hang up call came from the area of East Main and State streets in Thompsontown, the report said. Troopers searched the area but could not determine where the call came from, police said. State police remind parents that giving an old cell phone to a child to play with as a toy is not a good idea. As long as the phone has battery life, it can be used to summon emergency services. These services are limited, and every unnecessary call reduces the ability to respond to an actual person in crisis.
