Moore seeks election to Lewistown Borough Council

LEWISTOWN – Matt Moore of Lewistown has announced his candidacy for a seat on Lewistown Borough Council.

Born in 1964, the son of Rosann and Lee “Ed” Moore, Jr., Matt has been a life-long resident of Lewistown. As a youngster, he would spend his time at Rec Park Pool, and is a strong supporter of keeping the pool open.

Moore stated, “The pool was put in to give back to the public, not to make money like some of my other candidates think it should.”

He is a 1984 graduate of Lewistown Area High School and the former Mifflin-Juniata Vo-Tech School, currently known as Mifflin County Academy of Science and Technology, where he studied electronics.

Along with his wife Gina Shawver-Moore of 19 years, Moore lives in the borough with their three sons, Gage, Evan and Reese. He has been a member of Grace United Methodist Church all his life, where he also served as a trustee. He’s an active member of the City Hook & Ladder, where he has served as president and is currently a trustee and driver operator. His wife and three sons are active with the City Hook & Ladder as well.

Moore is also a board member of the Mifflin-Juniata Community Concert Association and has served on Mifflin County’s Internet Advisory Committee. Moore’s work experience in electronics includes Zampelli Electronics for 16 years, One Stop Communications for 7 years, and Valley View Retirement Community in their IT department for 10 years, from 2013-2022. He is currently employed by Philips Ultrasound in their IT department.

Moore also has prior experience on Lewistown Borough Council as he served back in 2008 and was voted back on council in 2016. In all he has more than eight years of experience, serving the residents of the borough.

Matt participated on many committees like Law and Ordinance, Fire Ad Hoc committee, the Rec board and the EG channel (MCTV).

“I was on council during the wastewater treatment rebuild,” Moore recalled. “I supported having our own police department once again, and I can’t thank these men and women enough for everything they do.”

He was also instrumental in getting MCTV operational in the county, which helps maintain transparency and access for our citizens with Lewistown Borough, the Mifflin County Commissioners and the Mifflin County School District.

If elected, Moore stressed that he is going to work with other council members as a group, not as individuals. “Our committees, employees, and our landowners will be held accountable for all their actions,” he said. “We must work together to get things done and make Lewistown a great place to live. Lewistown Borough needs to be cleaned up and we need to get past all the red tape to make it happen.” Moore said. “What I see as one of the big problems in the borough is that we have people not paying their taxes and nothing is being done about it. This needs to stop.

“The borough has a revenue problem, not a spending problem,” he added. “Holding the line on taxes is a great idea and one that I support; however, we must do our part to support our police, fire and emergency medical services.”

As he did during his previous service to Lewistown Borough, Moore will make his phone number and email address available to all residents with any comments or concerns.

Moore concluded, “An open line of communication is very important, and I want people to know I will be there for them. I will not hide behind executive sessions and closed-door meetings.”

Moore is No. 7 on the ballot, running for a 4-year term as your Republican candidate to Lewistown Borough Council. He is also asking supporting Democrats to write in his name.
