LEWISTOWN — Now that the newly-elected county officials have taken office, the Mifflin County Commissioners on Thursday took a moment to recognize the decades of service of two outgoing public office holders.

The commissioners issued proclamations honoring former treasurer Deb Civitts and former register and recorder Barbara Stringer. Both women are retiring after being defeated in the Republican primary election in the spring of 2021 and completing their terms in office last week.

“Whereas (Civitts) has been an invaluable employee and elected official in the treasurer’s office,” Commissioner Robert Postal read from the proclamation honoring Civitts. “She has acquired a wealth of knowledge and provided effective customer service to our community residents.”

Civitts was on hand to accept the proclamation.

“I would just like to thank the commissioners for this proclamation,” Civitts said. “It means a lot to me.

“I can tell you right now, I don’t know what my future holds right now. There’s many options for me, but I know who holds my future and that’s God,” Civitts added.

Civitts also thanked the voters of Mifflin County, her family and friends and her colleagues for standing by her.

The commissioners also honored Stringer for her service to the county as register and recorder.

“Whereas (Stringer) chose to dedicate her career to serving Mifflin County citizens,” Commis-

sioner Mark Sunderland read from the proclamation. “Whereas in honor of Barbara A. Stringer and in recognition of her dedication, loyalty and professionalism, her friends and coworkers wish her a healthy, happy and prosperous retirement and plenty of time to pursue her passions in life.”

Stringer commented on the honor during the meeting.

“I really want to thank everyone here and the visitors and the whole realm of Mifflin County, and all the voters, the faithful voters, and all the veterans that have visited the office,” she said. “I’m so thankful to have experienced and worked with the veterans and all of the public in Mifflin County.

“I’ve been so blessed to go through the years and learn what I have and work with everyone in the good times and the off times. The good times outweigh so much of the other times and I thank the Lord for everything he’s given me to be able to acknowledge, to withstand all the things that I have and learn to work with people,” Stringer added.
