Local students honored with college scholarship
Students from JHS, EJHS recognized for S.A.T. scores
MIFFLINTOWN–Recipients of the annual Richard J. and Lela A. Nestler College Scholarship were recognized Tuesday morning during the meeting of the Juniata County Commissioners. This year’s scholarships were awarded to Kathryn Hart of Juniata High School and Jadyn Martin of East Juniata High School. Both students were selected for having the highest combined Scholastic Aptitude Test (S.A.T.) scores in their respective schools.
Also during the meeting the commissioners proclaimed the dates of June 21st through June 27th as ‘Amateur Radio Week’. Members of the Tuscarora Amateur Radio Association were on hand to accept the proclamation. The commissioners noted the importance of amateur radio operators as they keep emergency services connected when other forms of communications aren’t functioning.
The commissioners also took the following actions:
¯Approved the ‘Medical Assistance Transportation Program (MATP) Participation Grant Agreement’ and ‘Assurance of Compliance’. The Agreement shall commence on July 1, 2021 and terminate on June 30, 2022.
¯Ratified an ‘Engagement Agreement’ with McNees, Wallace, & Nurick, LLC. along with an accompanying ‘Common Interest and Joint Defense Agreement’.
¯Acknowledged the resignation of Sarah R. Alvarez from her position as a Children & Youth Services full-time caseworker effective as of the end of business on June 11, 2021.
¯ Reviewed the May 2021 departmental reports: “Assessment Reports” as submitted by the Juniata County Assessment Office; “Treasurer’s Report” as submitted by the Treasurer’s Office; and the “Children and Youth Statistical Report” as submitted by Ashley J. Baxter, Children & Youth Director.
¯ Ratified payment of checks #61465 – #61544 in the amount of $68,944.16.
¯Approved payment of checks #61545 – #61583 in the amount of $59,834.29.
