Local doctor remembered by colleagues and patients
Dr. Stephen Solomon
LEWISTOWN–With the recent passing of Dr. Stephen Solomon many colleagues and patients shared their memories and gratitude for his service as a Health Care provider in our area and how he had a lasting impact on their lives. Solomon was originally from Jamaica and attended medical school at Montclair University of Medicine and Dentistry in New Jersey. He delivered several thousand babies and was delivering babies of some of the young people he had delivered. He is survived by his wife Lucretia and three children, Daniel, Maggie and Adam. Solomon left Lewistown Hospital in 2011 to fulfill the dream of having his own private practice and continued practicing there until Spring of 2020.
Geisinger shared the following letter.
“Geisinger is joining the community as we remember a compassionate, gifted physician who recently passed away. Dr. Stephen Solomon was a trusted obstetrics and gynecology specialist to many in our community for several decades. He was employed by Geisinger from 1992 through 2011 and then served the community independently until his passing. From 1992 through April 2020, Dr. Solomon delivered babies at Geisinger Lewistown Hospital.
Many Geisinger employees are mourning his loss. We are remembering when he saved the lives of women and children. Together we are fondly recalling the jokes he told the way he made his patients feel accepted, safe, and cared for.
A faithful neighbor, friend, husband, father and physician, Dr. Solomon’s life will e remembered by so many.
We are so appreciative of Dr. Solomon’s selfless service to his patients and the community. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers as they experience this difficult time.”-Geisinger Lewistown Hospital
Many people from the community sent in kind sentiments and we share them with you here.”
“I worked with Dr. Solomon as a midwife for 3 years. He taught me so much in those years. He truly cared for every single one of his patients. He knew all of them and you won’t find providers like that very often. I could mention a name and he would know their whole health history. Mifflin Co. OB/Gyn was a family (a crazy one) and he treated patients like they were part of the family. And he dealt with all of his coworkers, no matter how much he rolled his eyes at us. Dr. Solomon also delivered my son and I will be forever grateful for his care.”- Katie Jeziorski, CNM
“It is hard to put into words the type of physician and person Dr. Solomon was. He gave his life to his patients and always made you feel that you were the only patient he had. He helped give us our baby girl to complete our family after having multiple miscarriages.” -Heather Reichenbach
“For the past year and a half, I was having weekly visits with Dr. Solomon fighting infertility. The last appointment we had with him he said we had about a 10% chance of conceiving but was always positive with us. Apparently, Dr. Solomon’s work with us was not finished because our biggest blessing is expected to arrive January 2021. I know he had a part in this and wish he would be here to share our excitement.”-Taylor Pollicino
“He saved my life not once but twice. I may not be here if it wasn’t for him.”
“My heart is heavy. Dr. Solomon was not just my doctor but a trusted friend. Without him and his wife Lu, I am not sure I would have had the courage to try again after loss. Thank you, Dr. Solomon. I will miss you and your impact on my family’s journey will never be forgotten.”
“There are not enough words to describe the great man that he was, and always will be in the hearts of so many of us in Mifflin County. He was always taking the time he needed with his patients instead of rushing everyone through.”
“He really cared about his patients. He did an awesome job with the birth of my daughter. He will be deeply missed and many prayers for his family.” Karen Shenk
“Dr. Solomon helped me process all my miscarriages and made sure he found out what happened each time so we could fix it. Although my journey wasn’t finished with Dr. Solomon, I will continue to fight for my dream and whoever accompanies me on this journey will have some big shoes to fill. We love you Dr. Solomon and you will be greatly missed.”-Katlin
“Dr. Solomon helped me through the difficult choice of hysterectomy, and I am grateful to him.”-Rosemary Holley
