JCSD Board selects Mark Wagner as president

Amy Wagner chosen to fill VP role for coming year

MIFFLINTOWN — The Juniata County School District Board of Directors elected a new president and vice president at its reorganization and regular board meeting Thursday evening.

During the reorganization period, the board nominated and approved Mark

Wagner to serve as president and Amy

Wagner to serve as vice president, effect-

ive Thursday.

Members serving on the board for the next year include Erin Derr, Dennis Irvin, Christine McLaughlin, Larry Rothrock, Christine Shadel, Joseph Shearer, Danny Snyder, Amy Wagner and Mark Wagner.

The board also established the meeting schedule for 2017. Regular meetings will continue to be at 8 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month, with the exception of May, July and December, at Fermanagh-Mifflintown Elementary School.

The public will be notified of a new meeting location, the district’s administrative building, 146 Weatherby Way, Mifflintown, at the necessary time.

Snyder was appointed to the Tuscarora Intermediate Unit 11 Board of Directors and Shadel was appointed as the Pennsylvania School Boards Association liaison.

The position of transportation committee liaison will not be filled this year.

The board also agreed to retain Scott C. Etter, Esquire as the solicitor for 2017.

During the finance discussion portion, Shearer made a motion to revisit the $304,332.60 boiler upgrade and fuel switch plan at Lack-Tuscarora Elementary School. The plan did not receive enough votes to pass at the previous school board meeting.

The motion was moved and seconded, but again did not receive enough votes to pass.

Also at the meeting, the renewal of Superintendent Keith Yarger’s contract for an additional three-year term was approved.

Though Yarger’s contract expires on Aug. 24, 2017, the board will renew it on July 1, 2017, to stay congruent with the school year.

During the public comment portion, Jennifer Foust spoke positively about Yarger and the work he’s done as superintendent.

“He’s put our children before his own,” Foust said. “I think that says a lot about his character.”

The board also announced the resignation of Donald Troutman as East Juniata High School boys soccer coach.

“What an illustrious career he’s had,” Shadel said. “He will be sorely missed.”

Starting at $2.99/week.
